shocking child endangerment

I just read that a child strapped in a car seat was left by the side of a nearby highway.

I am appalled: this is so dreadful, so sick.

A man stopped and rescued the baby, who is now in the hospital.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE?!

@CrazyDaisyyou can Google the story. It happened in Flint, Michigan. Last I read, the authorities don't know what happened. The parents of the child were contacted but they don't know if the child was returned to them.

He was wearing no shoes or socks and a driver said she saw the kid walking with the seat strapped to him.

The article I read said this happened in Florida. A couple left their small child outside in a car seat beside a road to their mobile home park.

The child has cerebral palsy. A man cruising the mobile home park for yard sales saw him and then about 45 minutes later he noticed the child was still there and called 911. Paramedics arrived and the child was check out and not in any medical distress.

The parents were arrested.

Why? My guess would be some kind of substance abuse. It usually is.

Hopefully, this child will now have a better life than his sick, uncaring parents could provide.

OMG! This apparently happened more than once in different states.

I swear nothing even shocks me anymore. People are doing this type of thing every day. Yesterday some guy in NYC jumped onto the subway tracks while holding onto his 5 year old daughter. She survived, thank god. People are the worst.

Every week there is some story on the news that amazes me.

I live near Flint, MI so that is the story which I heard about this morning. In Flint, while it doesn't make the situation any better the child was on the side of a busy road but it wasn't a highway or interstate. In reading our local news article someone saw the child walking down the road with the Carseat strapped on his back. If that is that case who knows where the child was left or how long he had been wandering around.

Last weekend it was someone who left their child locked in their car in their driveway.

I've heard this several times. I can't even imagine how whacked out you would have to be to do this to your child.

Here in Buffalo a few weeks ago a woman found a 3 year old on her porch. About a mile away there was a burned out car with human remains. The police believe there is a connection to the child. CCTV cameras have the child being walked away from the scene by either a third of fourth person of interest. The grandmother traveled up from Florida for the boy because she saw a post on FB. There was also 4.4 lbs of drugs found in the parents hotel room. It's a huge mess. In the meantime, the little boy is with CFS until they can verify the GM's home is investigated. The GM is the mother of the boy's father who was apparently one of the victims of the car fire.

Anytime I am tempted to say I have heard it all, I stop myself.

You just couldn’t make this up. I can’t conceive of anyone doing this to an animal. But such cruel and inhuman treatment to your own child....I just know there are good people out there who would adopt this helpless child and give this poor tyke a home filled with love.

I have noticed a lot of stories lately about parents forgetting their children in the car. There has to be some sort of substance abuse or the actions of the parents were intentional.

How does one become so busy or distracted that they leave their children or pets in the car????

Even after the convictions of some parents who have left their children in hot cars people are still doing it. It's mind boggling!

This story took place in Flint (about a half hour from me).

One poster said things like this are happening so much that it's almost normal. But I was beyond shocked.

Nothing surprises me now. In my state we have a Safe Harbor law which means that a baby can be left at any hospital, police station, fire station and no questions will be asked. The mother will be offerend medical care and social services but she is free to decline and leave the child in safe hands, no questions asked. But still, we see abandoned babies! Why leave a child in a dumster when they can walk into a police station and hand the baby over and walk out? Part of the problem is drug addiction which makes women lose all judgement and fear and distrust authorities.

I was just going to mention that...after all the awareness stories on the news and social media about DONT LEAVE YOUR CHILD IN HOT CARS...they still do it.....Funny how they remember their phones, and wont forget them....but seem to forget their kids in the back seat of their car....SMH

My siblings in law left her baby in a car over 30 years ago. She wasn’t on drugs and there was no cell phone. It also wasn’t summer. She realized just about right away and was horrified. Said she usually didn’t have the baby with her at this time of day and was pre occupied with something else.

i don’t know if we are just hearing more about it with social media being the way it is today or what. But, it has happened before.

I have a friend thats a nurse at a hospital and she deals with those with mental health issues....she keeps saying if people think vaping has bad side effects....wait until time goes on and they discover the far reaching effects of marijuana which is gaining acceptance and is legal in many states....She said that the side effects of marijuana lasts longer than alcohol......and it can seriously impact brain function as she has seen in her patients.....

The extent to which long-term use of marijuana (either for medical or recreational purposes) produces persistent cognitive problems is not known.

Id wish they do a study of these cases of "forgotten children" and see if the parents were "indulging" the night before these events....

No there doesn't. Why would you say that? People have been leaving infants, toddlers & young children in cars since Henry Ford built his first car. Most times people just forget. Especially if the child is "sleeping." Other times it's normal for them. They do it all the time especially when doing short stops at WaWa, 7-11, fast food take outs, etc.

I should add that in the state I live in, leaving children inside a car unattended is a felony.

@Mz iMac I understand that you are talking about short stops and that's not what I am referring to. I said what I said because of the limited reasons a person would forget and leave a child in a car all day long. I am a mother and I have never forgotten my child anywhere...nor have I left him for short stops.

It's good that in your state it's a felony to leave a child but I am also stating that people are still leaving their children in cars even after knowing it's a crime/felony to do so!

@suzyQ3 when I mentioned substance abuse (i.e alcohol or controlled substances) and or the actions were intentional I was only giving possible reasons/explanations as to why someone would leave a child in a car all day.
