This is the same long haired cat of ours, who had flea bite dermatitis last year. We had to take her to the vet to get a shot of cortisone, which really helped with the itching. I treated the main room that our 6 cats stay in with Fleabusters powder. I worked my tail off, applying it in the family room and then leaving it for a week to do it's work before I vacumed. At the same time, I made a decision to never let any of the cats out ever again. I felt bad doing it, but really couldn't afford the expensive flea treatment drops which I was buying from the vet. The cats were still bringing fleas into the house, and it was a viscious cycle. At the time I used the Fleabuster powder on the family room, I did not treat the utlity areas in the areas where the cats are allowed. I am wondering if there were some flea eggs that hatched and the whole cycle is starting over. My utility area would be very difficult to treat, since I have so many things stored there.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do? I plan to go the Petsmart and see what type of cat shampoo they have which would be soothing to this cats skin. I hope I can avoid having to take her for a shot again, as these are hard on their kidneys. I am also going to closely examine all of them to see if I see any fleas.

Can cats get this dermatiis from things other than fleas? Could it be possible that this cats needs to be washed on a regular basis? There are raised bumps all over her back.
