Delete Facebook

I read yesterday an article listing apps that should be removed from our devices because of malware and other dangers. Most of them were games and other apps I have never heard of.

One was huge though. It was highly recommended that we remove Facebook in its entirety, saving whatever we wanted to keep to the cloud or another storage facility first.

Would anyone here do that? I‘m thinking about it but I’m not sure how to go about it. I know one can temporarily shut it down, but delete it entirely . . . Is that possible?

My son has an account and I will tell you , he never accepts cookies ,or wants anyone tracking him. I guess he doesn't feel threatened, so no. I only have allowed 1 person to friend me and I know they are absolutely beyond reproach

I use it to sign into stuff

I am not surprised...I have never used the Facebook app on my phone of any of my other mobile devices. I remember a friend downloading the app and immediately the app accessed her phone contacts. I thought this was a little too intrusive and recommended she delete the app immediately. To this date her contacts are all mixed up and she still has to verify the number and names before placing some of her calls.

I do have my Facebook account and sign in and out on my desktop...I don't use the messenger, always change my passwords, and never stay signed into the account.

Both of my daughters convinced me to get rid of facebook maybe 8 or so months ago.

I didn't understand why, but I did it. I hated to do it because it was a good way of keeping in touch with my friends from the time (actually) I was born.

We all grew up together, went to the same schools and kept in touch through facebook.

It was an easy way to see how they were doing without being intrusive.

But, I don't go on it anymore. If you think about it, it is an easy way for anyone who wants to do devious things, or know someone's business can find out what they want to know.

I don't know anyone that this has happened to but I've read about people being robbed because they posted pictures on their trip WHILE they were away. Ha!

You can't believe everything that you read on the internet.

Just because it's on the internet, does not mean that it's true.

I've been a member of Facebook for well over a decade, and I have NEVER had one single problem with FB.

It is what one makes of it.

I am not the person that posts every five minutes what I am doing, eating, etc.

I have gone dayS without posting a single thing.

I do use it to keep in touch with family and friends, groups and tv shows that I am interested in.

It is neither as innocent as the driven snow, nor is it the evil entity that some would love to have everybody believe.

As I said, FB is what *YOU make of it, and how *YOU decide to use it.

It's just a tool, like a hammer is just a tool.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

* "YOU" = general meaning.

@LilacTree,actually it is probably not a bad idea. It seems kind of creepy to me. Lots of pictures and personal info that should probably be kept private in many cases. Anybody can stalk anyone.

I use Facebook daily, it's become more of a mind-numbing, time wasting habit than anything else. I never, ever do any of those "what's your animal poet name" or "what career are you most suited for" tests, if you get my drift. I basically just use it to see what people are up to, sometimes get a recipe, or see some good photography.

I'm getting more and more irritated, though, with all the ads. It's getting to be one ad for every legitimate friend's post. I delete every one and tell Facebook to hide them in the future. I deleted all my "interests", and it makes no difference. If this keeps up or gets worse, I am pretty sure I will be deleting the app as it is becoming more irritating than entertaining.

I don’t accept cookies either, and I never have put personal issues on there. But I have posted hundreds of photos over the years.

And I do belong to a couple of forums about my health issues that are Facebook based. I wouldn’t care that much about them. They don’t show up on my personal page, but I realize they are probably linked somehow.

I am seeing more negatives than positives about Internet use than I used to. It’s discomfiting.

I've had an FB account for years. I seldom go there except when I get an email that one of my "friends" has posted something I might be interested in. (How they determie that I dont know, but whatever.)

If I'm interested enough, I'll go have a look and look around at some of what has happened since I was there last and then log out.

I don't have the app on my phone. And I never use FB (or google) to log in at other sites.

I also have never filled out the personal part of it either, but of course they still have my name. It seemed so innocent years ago when I first joined.

I can't imagine deleting Facebook. Most of my family lives many miles away from me. Facebook is a wonderful, easy way to see how all the children are doing, wedding photos, etc. I mostly just view and occasionally comment. I never initiate anything.

@LilacTree by now, I am sure that you probably have nothing to worry about. If your last name has been out there for years ,with no trouble..I never post anything on mine, that is personal

I have lots of religous stuff, so if people want to read it ,be my guest, if not, shrug, I don't care

And lately the constant posting of “friends of friends of friends” which I delete every day is offensive and, IMO, dangerous.

Same here. I have nothing on my profile and limit access. I have had no problems with Facebook.

Would not know how to undo ....it and I rather enjoy the “newsfeed” . Rather addicted actually to the newsfeed😄

I read and post on newsfeed too. Mostly political because we can’t do that here.

Those quizzes are magnets for spam up to your eyeballs. If it were junk mail in your snail mailbox you'd have the recycling bin filled in two days.

I also won't share any of those "I bet I won't get one like or share" things. I won't give them a like or a thumbs up.

I'll go days without making a comment or post of my own.
