Flashback memories

Have you ever just had a moment where you suddenly and vividly recalled a very old memory? Tonight I was listening to music with my headphones and suddenly BAM, I remembered going out for ice cream with my mom and sister and best friend on hot summer nights. And just sitting there on a curb eating it and thinking of nothing else. Life was so simple. Wow that was weird.

Yes, I have.

They are usually a childhood or young adult memory and they are so clear and strong i can almost smell scents or hear the voices.

They are very fleeting and most of them are sweet and lovely.

Sitting on my grandmother's porch in Tryon, NC. Always the porch. Always with grandmother. Strolling in downtown Tryon with my grandfather. Sometimes a few miles further south in Landrum, SC. Just depends on what excuse he made to get out of the house for a while.

yes, and more frequently than you might expect as i grow older.

i also have them in dreams.....and then i am so mad when i wake up.

Like @sunshine45 , I also have flashbacks in dreams, and I’m transported back to many of the different homes where I’ve lived in the past. The furnishings, the layouts of the rooms....all things I’d thought I’d forgotten, come back to me in these dreams.

Wow, @Grouchomarx, I was just thinking about this last night before I fell asleep! I haven't had any "new" flashbacks' in a while.

Yes ! They have come to me more frequently lately, and they make me wonder if they are a message from a loved one who has passed, because they are so random and sudden .

Yes, nearly always of my grandparents. some in dreams. Exactly as I recall the old house. The sound of grandmas pitter patter through the old house, the cold drafts coming in, the smell and heat of the fire in the pot bellied wood stove in the living room. Sometimes I will dream of these memories and take a moment on waking up and wonder if I was really back there, in that time, somehow.

Quite frequently and they are flashes out of the blue. Nothing appears to be triggering them. But, they aren't always good experiences...sometimes what I would have called bad at the time are silly and unimportant, now.

I think they are issues that need to be brought to light and examined within a current mindset. Most were learning experiences...building wisdom that comes with age.

While I have many pleasant memories, I try not to dwell too much because they make me sad. So, since I can't recreate them, I do something to occupy my mind.

Yes, once in a while, it’s usually fueled by a song or sometimes even a smell😀
