@rms1954 This is just my opinion, but if you need to post what good deed you did just to draw attention to yourself and how great you are, it becomes about you and you are looking for accolades and attention. If you do it and get your pleasure and joy just from seeing the person's reaction or knowing the help that others will benefit from, then it really is a good deed.

A lot of people are attention seekers and this is just another way for them to be in the spotlight.

Now, on the other hand, if people are asking for examples of what you have done and you tell them, then it's more about offering ideas.

If my posting about a good deed that I have done helps to inspire even one person to do something similar, then I see nothing wrong with having mentioned my good deed.

I would much rather read an uplifting post from someone who has done something good for another human being than half the stuff I read on social media. I see no harm in sharing something that has touched some person's life in a positive way.

Heaven knows we could use some positivity in this world of ours.

It's the small things that make someone's life easier. i.e. someone leaves a shopping cart in a parking space. You can move it so someone may be able to park their car. A good deed for a day.

Speaking of good deeds and an uplifting story for the day....Did you read about how kindly a couple and their autistic 4 year old were treated on United Airlines? Look it up online. Sigh...love that stuff.

i think good deeds should be done from the heart with a humble spirit. But many people only learn how to do this by doing a good deed because they think they have too. It is the feeling you get inside that may direct you to do more, and not for attention or praise but just to do because it is right

The big defference between the two..the celebrity

wasn't personally quoted boasting about their good deed.

It really IS about the Cause....not the Applause.

I’m not a big proponent of, ‘OMG I was so generous yesterday!’

I mean...if that makes one feel validated then...you do you.

I don’t roll that way.

Depends on the good deed and how often someone brags on social media. Many forget what they say is made public. Not everyone is their friend.

I don't automatically think someone posting a good deed is boasting, though.

Not all good deeds are done with intention because they require quick action. Like saving a dog or giving a Heimlich procedure. It requires quick thinking and most people aren't thinking, I must do this to get recognition.

But, I get it. Some people do things to get attention. Often they have inferiority complexes only feeling good about themselves when others constantly boost their self worth. Receiving many likes and replies on Twitter, for example, boosts their self esteem. It's sad because, IMO, self worth begins as a child in the home.

I agree with the saying 150%!

Good deeds are done for the sake of doing them, not so that one can post/boast/brag about what they've done for others.

If someone else brings good deeds done by another to light, that's up to them. But unless it's on a resume or in a job interview, blowing your own horn is attention seeking and tacky.

To excuse calling attention to one's good deed by claiming to inspire others is nonsense. No one who cares needs inspired and it's self important to suggest your bragging will inspire them.

I am more inspired by the stories of those who have RECEIVED these good deeds. Seeing how it made them feel and how it made their day is a wonderful message. Listening to someone "toot their horn" or even brag about people they know is self serving. They are just trying to make themselves look good, not inspire anything.

I just prefer to keep those things private. They often come off as boasting and bragging to me. I think people like all the gushing about how wonderful they are when they talk about what they've done.

It's a turn off to me...

Though on a large scale-public figure angle, it can generate

more money to the cause thru matching.

Like Hurricane Harvey, JJ Watt’s donation generated a foundation

and many other large matches for a good cause.

It isn't up to me to determine who is looking for attention.

I'm sure that there are people who lie about what they do just as I am sure there are good-hearted folks who mean no harm when they submit what they have done.

It doesn't matter to me if the post "inspires" others. Either you have it in you to be charitable or you don't. That is a non-issue.

I think people need to take a look at why they find it boasting or bragging or looking for attention. Perhaps one is resentful of the very cause being supported.

Or perhaps their own lack of charity gets a little nudge when they read such posts.

I also find it almost amusing that those who are so adamant that they would never talk about their charity are actually boasting themselves-in other words, "I don't toot my own horn" is ..........tooting one's horn.
