Dish TV

About a month ago I signed up for DishTV and was told I would get every channel etc.. When it was installed I was told I did not have CBS because of contract dispute. I was so angry. I called Dish and was told I could get a free antennae to pick up local channels and someone would be out that day. No show, called back and someone would come next morning.,no show again. Then was told it was a scheduling glitch and that they could not come out until 9/7. Then I get an email that they were coming yesterday....again no show. So my point of this post is not to use Dish.....It is the worst and now I am stuck for 2 years.

Dish was my first after free TV - I never had any isue with disputes because perhaps there weren't so many disputes as nowadays.

My problem was the weather - rain, snow, wind - a bird flew really fast

Dish doesn't deliver as the mailman - my show would become snow for a while and that was extremely frustrating

So when the weather is frighful - don't count on a night of cozy TV

You should make Dish's corporate office aware of the scheduling foolishness you've had from your local Dish representatives.

What I get from your post is that your local Dish office is possibly understaffed, and someone already hired needs to be looking for new work.

Bad HR?

Bad management?

Bad scheduler?

Bad field rep?

Had Dish 2 years ago when I lived rural - - and this used to happen everytime Dish had to renegotiate their multi-year contract with the networks (and yet it was always CBS that we'd lose until they reached a settlement).

While this was ongoing, you would go to the CBS channel, and there would be Dish rep explaining it's position and later have a CBS rep saying that they needed an increase to sell that programming to Dish.

I'm thinking at some point this will backfire eventually bc millenials don't watch much network programming - they are more into streaming, Netflix and other shows.

Used to have it too. We were refugees from Comcast. First try at it. Hated it! Was awful. After the contract was up, we considered their rival (the name excapes me, LOL) But by then FIOS cames around, so we switched to them. FIOS was our first true fiber optic. The cable went directly inside our basement.

I've long since stopped watching network TV shows by the way....

I have had Dish Network for close to 19 years now and I switched from DirecTV, partly for that reason. Mostly because their Customer Service Reps knew less about their equipment than I figured out on my own.

Never had a single home service problem with Dish. In fact, they use certain local electronic services to handle their service calls. After I got to know a couple of those techs, I would just call that company and they would deal with Dish.

Their CS Reps know their equipment, but if I find a level 1 rep that can't help, I ask for a US based Level 2 rep, and always get my problem solved. When I did have issues they always discounted my service, which to me was another bonus.

As far as an antenna? Not sure what kind of TV set you have, but most that are not relics, have a coax Input to easily connect an antenna. I put 1 on each of our 2 TV sets the first time the Network feeds were lost over a contract negotiation. Bought cheap and since we aren't 100 miles from the TV Towers, all the over-the-air channels come in pretty good, even the HD broadcasts.

Got a guy here that thinks Dish beats the others, both in price and service, and especially using their Hopper 3 with Joey.

Unless you do not use Dish's DVR, outages effect only what is on at the time. Since Dish uses several different satellites, all the channels are not always effected by the weather. Since we watch only DVR programming, we seldom know the weather is an issue, unless of course, it effects the shows we DVR'd. Then we get "some recording may be lost".

Had more trouble the few years we had cable than with Dish Network, going past 19 years now. My only beef with Dish? They dropped Madison Square Garden(MSG) Network, and that tell them that every time they send a survey, or I need to talk with CS or a Technician.

Happy Dish camper here, now if they would only bring back my New York Rangers with MSG!

Don't recall losing CBS for any extended length of time. ABC was the network that lasted quite awhile. I know because that is the network my wife doesn't want to miss the only Soap she watches.

Like any big corporation, there are usually contract disputes. As far as backfiring because of millennials? They in my opinion are an over hyped age group. There are still quite a few of us(not sure what they call us) pre WWII babies living, and yes, some like myself are into all the latest tech, but streaming ain't all it's cracked up to be. This is especially so for those limited by broadband speed.

This negotiating is called Capitalism, and that is what I prefer. Now millennials and Gen Z? I really think all are overhyped, they usually are just the ones making the most noise, and doing nothing but!!

??? Call again and ask to speak to a supervisor. Escalate until you get satisfaction. I have Dish and I have CBS.

I am a Dish subscriber and I would appreciate it if the Dish subscriber s who ARE receiving CBS would post as to where they are located. Dish is saying that the outage is system wide; and an antenna doesn't help if you live in the mountains. I love the Fall lineup on CBS so I hope it's back by then.

In my area and many others, from what I've heard, the current flap is between CBS and Direct TV. This has been going on for weeks. Direct TV is handing out interior antennas.

I have had Dish for years and lately have had no channel outages. I just watched CBS last night. I live in the rural mid-south.

A few weeks ago our local NBC station was dropped by Direct TV, and they were asking people to call Direct to ask for it back. I don’t know if that was resolved or not, but it wasn’t Dish. As far as I know, Dish is not in dispute with anyone right now.

What I heard (hearsay) is that Direct TV's parent company bought CBS (or the other way around) and therefore this is a "squeeze" tactic against Dish. It may be true, because this "negotiation" is longer than they usually last.

I was curious about this so I Googled it.

It seems that only about a dozen markets are affected. Those owned by Meredith Corp. They seem to be the only ones having a dispute with Dish.

”The Meredith stations to go dark include CBS affiliate WGCL-TV in Atlanta; Fox affiliate KPTV in Portland, Oregon; Fox affiliate KVVU in Las Vegas; CBS affiliate KPHO in Phoenix; and CBS affiliate KCTV in Kansas City. Meredith had extended its retransmission consent agreement for 24 hours on July 15. But when no deal was reached, the stations went dark to Dish customers at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on July 16.”

So, if you are in a market whose CBS stations are owned by Meredith, you’re likely without those stations until they get their contract worked out.

We have Dish, and I just checked the channel, we still have CBS and we live in

Colorado. But we lost HBO last year, a channel that we pay for, they were giving

us a credit every month, but never did get it back, and with price increases we're

paying the same amount as we were before, and no HBO or cinemax anymore either.

Oh yes, I forgot that Dish and AT&T (who owns HBO) are having a dispute.

I have Dish in Western New York & I have CBS. In this area Directv is the one having the dispute with CBS. Unfortunately for me Dish is disputing with Fox Sports Ohio. I haven’t been able to watch my Cleveland Indians games in weeks... I only got Dish because they had a regional sports package that included FSO. I pay extra for channels I can’t even get now. And I just signed a new 2 year contract BEFORE I knew they were cancelling my channel. Not happy!

we had dish for 2 years, and all the times we lost channels for contact disputes, we dropped dish and never went back. We have been with Verizon since the mid 90’s never looked back.
