O.m.g. Englebert!

Saw Rolling Stones last week of course fabulous!

DH never comes does not like R&R only opera so I came home tonight go find grandkids, DD all in kitchen - unusual for them to all be there together - then DH comes in with a red carnation in his mouth, saunters/waltzes across kitchen to me then DD presses music button and Englebert Humperdink comes on singing ‘ Oh Spanish Eyes’ then DH proceeds to waltz me around. Grand kids clapping.

DH wanted to prove ‘I can still move like Jagger’ I collapsed laughing but we did have a good dance to our old friend Englebert! Lovely song, lovely singer and DH not so bad! Lol.

I know I'm old - but I miss all the entertainers from the past!!!!!!!!! They can't be replaced.

@kivah Oh oh oh. Tom Jones was my #1 - love him. When I go home to U.K. he is on t.v. a lot and he definitely is the BOMB!!

My granddaughters and DD took me on my 60th birthday to Las Vegas to see him - front row seats - at MGM Grand where we stayed had a ball loved every minute of it. First trip to Vegas.

@NicksmomESQ and @dulwich , and @kivah , when I was about 18, I dated the saxophone player in Tom Jones' band. My friend and I weren't interested in Tom Jones as we were huge Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc fans. We used to laugh when they had to make a "human chain" to keep the ladies from attacking him when he ran down the aisle to the stage. They all knew they didn't have to worry about my friend and I lunging for him. That being said, the same band played for Englebert and we saw that he couldn't hold a candle to Tom Jones. Even as teenagers we saw what an incredible showman Tom was. now being older, I truly appreciate what an entertainer Tom Jones is....even though I'm still a diehard Beatles fan.

@dulwich Englebert is one thing, but the Rolling Stones! Now you're talking! My favorite group since the 60s. I have seen them in concert maybe seven times. But the most amazing thing is that in 1968 they played at my high school football field. They obviously we're not all that well known then to play at my small city outside of Boston. Tell me all about the concert. Even after his surgery, I bet Mick still has the moves, I guess as do you! Your husband sounds like a fun guy, lucky girl.

@Carol Diane Did you see all the underwear that was thrown at him in those dats?!!! Believe it or not it did happen at the show in Vegas lol. I said to my DD are you gonna throw your bra - no way she replied this is my old comfy one! it’s a keeper.

@dulwich , yes, the bras and undies were flying. We used to crack up when the granny panties were flung on the stage. The sad thing is, I was laughing in my little lacy bikini underwear and now I'M in those big granny panties!!!

@Biftu , I seem to have a lot of band stories. When I was 15, there was a lottery to get Stones tickets for Madison Square Garden. I was chosen and you had to wait for hours on line and purchase 4 tickets. I don't remember the price as it was about 48 years ago. I do remember being offered $500 for the tickets and declined. I REALLY wanted to see them in concert even though that was an incredible amount of money then. When I got home and told my dad the story, he said, is something wrong with you, you REALLY need your head checked! I did love the concert though.

Great story and memory! I first saw the Stones in Nov. of 1965 at the Academy of Music at NY. I bought the tickets for seven dollars, third row . I just walked up to the theater and bought the tickets without a wait or problem. I remember my sister and I, both Stones fans, looking up at a window the day of the concert and Brian Jones was waving at some of us! We were thrilled. The Stones weren't big then, they had just came to America and the Beatles ruled (love them too). We were able to see the Stones easily a few more times and than they exploded and became known and popular. Ticket prices went up and the rest is musical history!

Sorry but I didn't care for either Tom Jones or Englebert but it was fun reading the posts!!!!

I know I am aging myself with my story...I was in Jr. High School when Frank Sinatra was making his first appearance in the Paramount Theatre. Given permission by our parents my girlfriend and I stood on that loooong line waiting to be seated.

My friend went along with so many of the other girls screaming, which totally embarrassed me. He was a 21 year old skinny guy up on that stage and remained a favorite of mine until he passed. I also saw Englebert in person in Vegas, great performer!!

My Sweet Mother always watched both, and I would do so with her most of the time...she would often comment on Tom Jones...LOL, so I know she liked Both, he was her Favorite. Good memories

@dulwich wait....I don't understand...haven't you said that you and hub used to be involved (jobs) in rock concerts - at Wembeley I think you said. It was when I asked you if you'd ever worked with McCartney . So I don't understand that he doesn't like R&R!

As for myself, I've been a huge Tom Jones fan since I first saw and heard him. I had a big crush on him for years (but not as big as on MACCA) and never missed his weekly variety TV show in the 1960s. He is soooooo handsome and I sure wish he hadn't messed up his face w/ plastic surgery. I think in general the men I've seen who are Welsh are very good looking (Burton, Hopkins, etc.) and he's the best of the bunch. And that voice! I had an album of his in the '60s and CDs now. My father, who didn't like R&R, only classical music, loved the song Delilah, which showcased Jones' powerful voice. I remember he always ended his TV show each week with saying the same thing in Welsh, which sounded like a real mouthful! Tom Jones = hubba hubba! So attractive and virile.

Oh, yeah, I meant to say I never liked Englebert. I thought he was a Tom Jones wannabe and I found him to be a distant second to Jones in looks and singing ability.

Watched Englebert in concert from Hawaii on PBS this evening. He is 83 doesn,t look bad. He is from England, but looked Hawaian. His Granddaughter stood in his wife,s place and sang with him. She has a good voice. His wife of many years has Alzheimer's. He married her when she was 17 he said. Brought tears to my eyes.

He gave a good show. He will be in Calif. In Oct. 2019. I think San Jose.
