Thoughts On Your Birth Order

I imagine everyone has pros and cons of where they place in the birth order. I am the youngest of three, I felt being the baby, I was treated as such. My brother was the oldest I thought he had a lot of freedom ( he thought I got away with murder)! My sister is the middle child I don't think she minded ( she doesn't like conflict, I don't think she ever took sides). I often wonder how people who were only children felt, we're they lonely, did they enjoy being in an adult world? The thing is when you don't have any siblings, as your parents age the responsibility falls on you, also when your parents are both gone you probably feel very alone. Just wondering where everyone else is in the birth order.

I was third in line of 3. Two brothers and I am the baby girl. Yes, I was spoiled but not overly. I think there were times my brothers were jealous.

I'm the oldest of four (2 of each).girl / girl / boy / boy. There are three of us still living. Six and a half years between me and the youngest.

Never thoughjt much it about it. We were all treated equally as far as I can recall.

My youngest brother and I are particularly close, and his wife and I are good friends..

Such an interesting study. I think my middle sis stole the first born position from my brother. She's rich and brilliant and he was more reserved and brooding. It was her's for the taking, I guess. Being the youngest -- loved it. Observed siblings first-hand and learned what to do in life and what to dodge. Benefitted from their early life experiences. I married a first born. Business major. Once we married, discovered he was a bit too controlling but over the years he taught me to be more responsible and I've taught him to be more generous and compassionate. Thrilled it worked out that way. Could have been a mess. Youngest daughter dating oldest of four siblings. He's a planner to extremes. He'll calm down. She's a free spirit and he loves that about her, but she could be a little more responsible about personal business. I'm trusting they'll learn from one another. Middle daughter married a middle child. They negotiate a lot. During challenging times, neither think they're being heard. Interesting.

I'm the oldest of three, but I'm the only one living now. Both my parents are gone, too. So it's just me, no kids...just my sweet golden.

My family was never close. That's the military lifestyle for you...very dysfunctional.

Im the oldest and my brother is 9 yrs younger. Im responsible and he is not.

We both have a lot of issues since we were physically and emtionally abused by our mother.

I’m an only, and to be frank, it was great. I did relate more to adults, but I always had friends and my parents made sure I wasn’t spoiled . I’m sure that in many cases it is nice to have siblings, but I don’t miss what I never had. It might have been nice to have help with my parents as their health failed, but on the good side there was no squabbling, my decisions for better or worse.🌺

I am the youngest. I had one Sister and she was four years older than I am. She passed away last year and it is really odd for me now being an only. I had my Sister my entire life and we had a good solid bond and did a lot of things together. We lived on the same street as adults for twenty five years. I do miss her but I am not upset about what I no longer have just so grateful for what I had. The funny thing also is that she and I both have only children. She has a son and I have a daughter.

I’m the oldest of four. There are 3 girls and one boy. Difference in age between oldest and youngest is 13 years. Us three girls are very close. Unfortunately 2 of us are 4 hours apart and the other is a world apart in another country. However she usually comes to the US once a year. All three of us wish the brother had been a girl. We don’t speak to him.

Interesting question @Jordan2. I’m the oldest of 2. My younger brother, by 3 years, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at 49. In many ethnic families, sons are favored over daughters. Birth order’s not an issue. When my brother died, MY son who was in college, became almost like a “replacement” to my parents. That left me & my daughter somewhat overlooked.

I am the baby in the family being the youngest of five.

Two older brothers and two older sisters.

My brothers are both gone and I am close with one

sister. The other shuts everyone else out and has

always been concerned about herself and what she

can get from everybody. Cold and selfish.

I am the first of five and had no childhood, my mother was always trying to make me a year older than I was. I guess she was overwhelmed with 5 kids and wanted me to grow up fast, so I could help out.

Middle child. It's tough being in the middle because money starts to get tight. Your parents won't be able to pay your college tuition, etc. You wear hand me down clothing. You can't get your own picture. There is always an arm around you. You don't get the same attention like the oldest did and the youngest will always get.

Oldest child gets it all. College, clothes etc. they become your best and brightest with bragging rights. the best you will ever produce. Youngest hangs around the longest and get treated like a baby. Treated like that long after he or she is pushing 40.

Only child. Gets treated all of the above. Becomes the object of curiosity, when after 10 years no other sibling to join he/she joining the household. Grandparent start to inquire about settling down and becoming a "real family" with another child in the family. After all, if God forbids anything whould happen to your kid........Truth is you need another one to replace .......said child.

Birth order has always fascinated me. I am the oldest of three, and only girl. I do have many of the traits associated with being first born.

I felt I had it made until brother number one was born, when I was 4. This brother definitely has middle child traits, and he is the favorite. Yes, our parents loved all of us and treated us the same, but this brother favors mom’s family; particularly her dad and brother.

I was 9 when brother number 2 showed up. I had my heart set on a little sister, so I was terribly upset with another brother. Little brother and I have always been the two peas in a pod; we take after my dad’s family, and mom relates more to 1st brothers easy going personality, above our bolder personalities.

There is a well known book called The Birth Order Book. I have it.

It addresses everything about one’s birth order. It takes a lot of variances into account too.

It is fascinating reading. The author’s name is Kevin Leman.

I’m the oldest on both sides of my family. I think that gave me a bit more status. Being first has its perks.
