Nope. I smoked for 35 years. For lots of those years there were warnings on the packaging that I never looked at. Thank goodness I quit smoking 15 years ago, but it was for other reasons and had nothing to do with the warnings on the packages. I can’t see that these will make any difference to those who are already smokers.

Unfortunately, none of the warnings will help. People know smoking is dangerous, yet they continue.

Cigarette ads have been banned from radio and tv for decades, but I have heard ads for the e cigarettes. They have nicotine and the oil used can't be good for the lungs. Why are these things being allowed on commercials?

If the commercials with the actual patients and also people who have died from smoking hasn't helped, then the new packaging won't either.

No. It will cause those who have friends/family who smoke with none of those afflictions to mistrust the messenger. Warnings are ineffective when they rely on fear. The texting while driving warnings haven't reduced texting among teenagers.

No label warming is going to stop those who are truly addicted. I quit cold turkey in 1985 because I thought they were becoming too expensive. Good thing, I would have had a heart attack if I could have seen what they charge now

i think its a wrong approach for most people.

Used to respect the simple warning statement they put on cigarette packages. But this comes across as manipulation & scare tactics. If I were still a smoker I'd have contempt for this approach.

I smoked heavily for years, knew exactly what I needed to stop smoking, and it was different from the next person, who was different from the next ...

I just stopped. Just like that. Just as I knew I could under the "right" circumstances I had in mind.

Most smokers i know contemplate cessation, but have reasons to continue smoking. Thanks to lying ads for Nicorette-type products overly hyping up how hard it is, dramatizing how traumatic and miserable it feels to stop smoking, my brother is now afraid to try to stop.

The warning should be taught in school early. It should be age and grade appropriate. IMHO, the e-cigarette is a major problem with young people. They want to be accepted by their friends. They also have money.

Everyone knows that smoking is unhealthy, warnings are pandering to those who want others to quit.

Why aren't there warnings on alcoholic beverages? Alcohol is more harmful to the unborn, more harmful to those sharing the road with the inebriated.

The warnings should be on the packs because smoking is harmful. But I don't believe they are effective other than hopefully the cautions of not smoking around children and while pregnant . Young people feel invincible and those who are hooked on nicotine are not stopping until they decide it can't go on any longer.

some gruesome imagery to purchase a pack of cigarettes under the NEW RULE proposed Thursday/ August 2019 by the US Food and Drug Administration.

This has been the first of anything that I have heard OF changing the warnings on cigarette packages.

Label:

Slap the smokers with images:: That would be cancerous mouth sores, diseased lungs and urine in bladder / i.e., bladder cancer.

Report:

READING that [[ Features grisly graphics ]] in COLOR that illustrate the damage of smoking that can be caused In the past 35 years (latest medical report) -this will be the most significant CHANGE to Cigarette labels.

Tobacco /Nicotine is said to be one of the most powerful drugs and highly addictive.

Medical 'News' on the 15th of this month/'2019.

Studies from my recent reports explain that from other nations- place GRAPHICs.

The US has never done that. There is a huge difference between a WARNING for texting that IS not Enforced or that it's a law!! Warnings are words on a pack of cigarettes.

REPORTED: Tobacco kills about 480,000 plus Americans every year.

More than 34 million adults and 1.4 million adolescents currently smoke. Tobacco kills more than alcohol, HIV, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders & suicides combined

Anyone may find these reports in any recent Health report of statistics.

People that smoke usually feel no need do read a warning on a pack of cigarettes.

The 1st HEALTH''''warnings'''' appeared in 1966 and updated in 1989 to include the well known studies from the US Surgeon General about the risks.

Graphics, hopefully will encourage Non Smokers it appears to discourage from initiation.

The government is using the scare tactic again. It may be the only thing that works on some smokers.

There are far fewer smokers today because many quit due to earlier warnings of lung cancer and photos of black lungs, so I think these new warnings will scare some who currently smoke, but it won't put tobacco companies out of business.

as to a law that is being ALL scary again, hopefully the intelligent power for the ability to educate.

I am willing to walk anyone through any unit treatment that unfortunately has the task in trying to make one patient much more comfortable from the effects of any damage of the disease. Maybe you have seen more/ I have not known that many actually knew about black lung.

I have seen many families watch 'what' a loved one goes through. It take education to help young people understand, however, I do not believe one hundred percent- by mere words can one change their mind in the beginning.

Not me!... is a common comeback.

How horrible, how useless I can feel when at that patient's end of life. I have been through just about every phase and painful day in the life of one that is struggling until the end.

This is new, another step... and it is about time, but I do agree, especially where I live, not as many "do" as there use to be.

Our young adults that are taught at an early age, are apparently wiser than those of years ago. I have based that from what I know, with understanding, only from my own geography.

One of the most successful stop smoking campaigns was a television ad. It was just one person on camera - Yul Brenner - while he was still alive. He told the audience something to the effect, "...you're seeing me now here on camera and I don't look too good any more. But I want you to know that I have bad lung cancer and will die very soon, because I was a chain smoker for most of my life. So, the next time you go to pick up a cigarette, think of me, because I'll be dead by then of lung cancer."

That was one sobbering commercial.

After his death, soon thereafter, word came out that sales of cigarettes in some markets had plummeted and many people admitted to giving up cigarettes due to what Yul Brenner had said on TV.
