Party Catered by a Food Truck

I'm not familiar with food trucks and what is customary in private party situations, so I'm trying to find out what is meant in this party invitation. The invitation indicates "Taco Truck at 6 pm" and "Live music at 7 pm." "RSVP required." "We are supplying beer -- bring your beverage of choice!"

Now does this mean the host is only providing beer and the guest buy their food from the food truck? Or is the host providing the food catered by the food truck? Do you buy your food and not the drink since the host specifies they are providing the beer or the guests bring their own beverage.

Does anyone know what is intended? I think having to pay or not pay for your plate of food should be specified. Or is having a food truck come by a given one way or the other? This food business is unclear or is it understood by everyone "in the know."

I would surely hope that if it is a private party, the hostess is paying for the taco truck. Otherwise, why have a party LOL. Yes, the invitation needed clarification.

@qwarkster. Around here the host pays for the food truck not the guests. But don’t know if that’s everywhere.

I take it to mean that there will be a taco truck there.

If you want food from the taco truck, you'll have to pay for it.

I coud be wrong about that, though.

The hosts will supply beer.

If you do not want beer, then bring whatever it is that you do want to drink.

It is your responsibility to supply your own beverage, if you do not want to drink beer.

The easiest way to get your questions answerd, is ask the host directly.

If someone invites you to a party I would surely hope they are providing the food!!! But, that invitation is not clear at all. To me it sounds like they're providing beer, music, and the location. Hope you get some clarity before the party.

In my area you wouldn't want to eat at any of the food trucks I've seen on the side of the road.

I'd try to describe them....but I can't find the words.

I have a feeling they might be illegal in my area because there are very few of them. The one or two I've seen look soooo bad...

If it were me I would call the person who invited me, and say something like, “I’ve never been to a party with a food truck....should I bring cash or will they take my credit card?” Then if the host IS paying they will tell you!

additional note: My city is a big tourist town. Each Friday night in the summer they have a food truck event in a plaza.....many different trucks gather and tents, tables and chairs are set up for customers. It’s very popular....I haven’t gone yet, but the local news has done segments on it and the trucks they have shown are very clean and the food looks great!

Food trucks in my area are very, very good.

They come to my office often.

The food is fantastic and several have won awards.

The invitation to the taco truck party is kind of vague. I would take money just in case.

I would bring cash in case I had to pay for the food. If I didn't want beer I would bring a small cooler with drinks. I am from the generation that if you invite people to a party you provide the food. I would never ever expect my guests to pay for their food. But this invitation is vague and it almost sounds like they are providing beer and music but who knows. Expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised if your "hosts" provide the food.

Normally a host provides food and beverage when they invite you to a party. But since this is unclear, I would just go and have a little cash in my pocket just in case.

Party food trucks are popular in my area. The could include cheese steaks, french fries, ice cream and Rita's to mention a few.

The host pays for the food and the food tuck is there for a designated time. Be there at 6...by 7, that truck might be gone.

Bring a small cooler with ice water, soft drinks and anything else you might want to drink. The host will provider the beer.

That invite is as clear as mud if you're not familiar with food truck parties.

Food trucks are one of things I really miss from working in a big city....Philly (Center City). They start setting up on the sidewalk (cooking & fruit salad making) early in the morning for the "lunch crowd." Most of the Center City trucks are actually towed on the back of cars. The trucks are parked on the sidewalk!

👍🏾 Nothing like a food truck lunch coated in auto gas fumes. 👍🏾

I don't think I've actually seen an "all in one food truck" till I moved to South Joisey! They seemed to "appear" out of nowhere at Juvenile Hall where jury duty is held.

What a strange invitation! I'd be confused as well - do you pay for tacos, or does the host pay for them? I think I'd give her/him a call (or text) to get some clarification! I can't imagine that a person would have a party and expect the guests to pay for their own food, and bring their own drinks if they don't want beer! Doesn't sound like much of a party! Let us all know how this turns out!

I have attended one party where a food truck provided the food. Brick oven personal size pizzas made to order- from a truck! Fun, unique and really good. Hosts paid for all food & drink.

I think OP's host(s) should also provide wine and soft drinks.

@Daisy Sunflower-- since you asked. The party is given by a sole owner of an intererior design business. I thinking she's invited all her past clients and some she's moseying up to for near future prospects. She's invited us as friends, but anytime we were out for dinner the first thing out of her mouth was "separate checks." They are not hurting for money because she and her DH are planning to buy a cigarette boat and have just bought a nice home with acerage. So I would think she would foot the bill for a food truck. But then why not say so and get some props in the process.

@qwarkster Your invitation sounds vague, but generally hosts say cash bar or cash whatever guests have to pay for themselves. I would be prepared to pay for food, but my hunch is the truck is the caterer of food for this party. I have been to a casual house party where the food was cooked in and served from a food truck. The truck and workers on it were cleaner than in some brick and mortar establishments. Folks seemed to have a lot of fun stepping up to the truck instead of having a traditonal buffet. The truck my hosts used even took special orders within limits of what they had in the truck for the preset menu.
