Hosts Not Mentioning Prices Enough (or at all?)

Back in ye olden days of QVC, the price of an item was always mentioned. Granted, I don't watch QVC shows except for LOGO shows, but during those shows I hear the EZ pay prices mentioned but not the actual price of the item. For example, I'll hear, "It's only $!8.00 a month on EZ pay..." Yeah, well tell me the actual price of the item so I don't have to know how many EZ pays exactly and then do math in my head and then approximate the S&H and tax.

The hosts really need to tell the actual price of an item. Hosts seem to skirt all around the issue. Shawn K will say during LOGO shows, about a reduced item, "This item used to be over $100 with the S&H but now it's only $14 a month." She'll fail to mention that S&H is also added to that, and also fail to say the actual price of the item. The very few times I've caught parts of other shows (i.e. sometimes PM Style before LOGO) I don't hear the total price of the item either.

Of course it's easier for the customer to buy something that sounds like it's less money, but again, I remember hosts - back a long time ago - always mentioning what the item's price was and then if it was on EZ pay they'd tell the price of the EZ payments.

I want to know the total price. I often watch the 10:00 pm LOGO show in bed and don't want to sit up and get closer to the TV screen to see the "real" price.

I heard one of the hosts today say "You can get it home for $9.95." No mention of easy pay. For someone unfamiliar with QVC and easy pay, $9.95 could easily be mistaken as the total price.

@Foxxee Exactly! And yes, they do often use that "you can get it home..." line which can certainly be misleading.

@Pearlee, Yes, you are right. Shipping costs have gone up, and then for some of us (like me) there is sales tax added.

Yup - totally agree with @Pearlee .... I don't watch live QVC programming, but when I check out previously aired items I usually have to scroll back to see what the price is again. I could care less about Easy Pay - just mention what the price is....occasionally would be nice. BTW - I'm 71 and can't always read the small dollar amounts on the screen....just saying. That happens with aging.

@Foxxee. Absolutely! Many people are visually impaired and cannot see the screen. Too bad this doesn't become an issue under the Americans With Disabilities Act.

How visually impaired are we discussing here. Are they able to see the product being presented or are they going by a description from the host? On my TVs, the price takes up approximately 1/5 of the screen.

Very good point @Kachina624 ! My older lady friend can't see the "box with all info" since she had macular degeneration. She calls to get full price & get other details. (They changed the graphics and it's harder for her to see).

@RoughDraft. We're talking legally blind. Both my parents had macular degeneration and neither could have read anything on the TV screen so they depended on what the host said, or would have if they'd sat around watching home shopping.

If you were so visually impaired you can’t see the price on the screen, which is a very reasonable size, I can’t imagine you’d be doing much TV shopping; how would you see the item, well enough to know you wanted it?

That would be a situation, when I assume, you’d call customer service for assistance.

As for mistaking the EP price, for the total price, I can’t imagine that happening, if you had any familiarity, with the item you’re buying. You’d know the EP price was way too low, and, again, call CS if you neded to clarify.

@Kachina624, I have known a few people with vision problems and am very sympathetic. My mother could see something on TV, but I am sure she would have had a hard time with print on the screen.

I guess some people have a hard time understanding the hardships of other people.

@PamfromCT Sometimes it's hard for a younger person to imagine being blind and somewhat confused at the same time. Dealing with my parent's issues was an eye opener for me. No pun intended

Unless I am watching on our large tv it is hard for me to see the prices etc. A bigger thicker font would help.

I would also like the fabrics to be mentioned on clothing items. I don't want to hear---"miracle fiber" or "cooling fiber" or "very expensive fiber"

Be honest and tell me what it is.

The Q used to be careful about being clear, now it seems a bit shady the way they present items.

It's not about people who don't see right (I almost mentioned that in my first post but didn't, even though it's a very valid point @Kachina624 , it wasn't my main point.

First of all, if the host can mention three, four, five, six, ten times during a presentation the EZ pay, why can't the host mention right off the bat the entire price? Hmmmmm?

The host has all that time to kill during the presentation, we hear the EZ pays ad nauseum, as well as goofing around comments that are completely irrelevant to the product. So why not give the price of the product?

Second of all, even with LOGO shows I don't sit and watch transfixed to the show. Spending five minute or more on any item gets boring - you either want it or you don't. For most of the years I watche QVC (when I watched it a lot more than I do now), I've always had it on in the background while I multitasked. It's not for me like sitting down and watching a movie. So no, I don't always see the price (and like others have said, on my TV screen in my bedroom it's actually quite small and blurry - old TV set and I'm in bed watching a 10:00 pm show!) Sometimes I'm just listening to determine if I'm even interested enough in the product to look at it. Those of you who are sniping at me for not looking at the price are, IMO, merely being argumentative and/or completely missing my point. I think the hosts are purposely no longer telling us the full price, esp. as items get more and more expensive on QVC. QVC is not being forthright with the customer.

I think Hennypenny nailed it about being shadier about its presentations. The host needs to give the full price, as well as EZ pays, upfront, at the beginning of the presentation.

Agree. The Q seems more and more desperate these days. (Although they have been pulling this one for a while.)

I think they have a whole new crop of viewers who are just used to the nonsense talk. Those of us who have been around for a while notice the huge change in the selling techniques from say 25 (or more) years ago, and we are vocal about how obnoxious it is. Most of us have either stopped watching, or only tune into shows we want to actually sit down and watch.

It used to be fun to watch, or even just have the Q on while puttering around the house. Now no one wants to listen to these people yammering and yelling at you.
