Would you just buy them yourself?

A friend has promised me some rugs for my apartment. I have been waiting for 4 months. She brought this up a couple of times so I know she hasnt forgotten. I need these rugs and Im tired of waiting. Would you just buy them yourself or wait? It could be weeks or months more.

Why put yourself through the stress of waiting for something that might never happen?

Yes, I would buy what I wanted. Empty promises just end up as a source of irritation. Buy them yourself and then you get exactly what you want.

Why would you wait months for her to buy them? If she was going to buy them, she would've done so by now. Most likely, the minute you buy them, she'll say "Why did you do that? I was going to buy them for you!" (Nice, easy out.) JMHO.

I forgot to say the rugs are ones she is using that she is planning to replace! She says anyway!

Not sure if this woman is really a friend why a more firm time frame was not previously established. If it's still up in the air, it's time for you to start shopping.

@Venezia I kept thinking that if I do buy them that is what will happen as soon as I do. She will call and say I have your rugs lol!

Is she buying them for you, or giving them to you from what she already has?

If she is buying them, I would just buy them myself and then say "look at the lovely rugs I just bought"....so she doesn't go out and waste her money.

If she already has them and is giving them to you I would say "Can I drop by this week to pick up the rugs?"

@Travone She is going to replace them in her place but who knows when! So I cant get them at this time until she replaces hers.

I want to buy pillows for sofa too and have waited and waited also because I think they might clash. So all this has been on hold!

The friend is still using the rugs that she is planning on giving the o/p.

In other words, the rugs are still on the friend's floor, currently being used.

Someday, she will replace them, and then give them to the o/p.

She probably hasn't had time to shop for the rugs that will replace the ones she intends to give you. I'd kindly ask for her time frame, just for "planning purposes," while reiterating how much I appreciate her offer.

Buy them yourself along with the other things you want to finish the decorating.

If she does eventually call, you can tell her you couldn't wait any longer to finish up with the rooms and she can give them to someone else or donate them.

Four months is long enough to wait.

Go out and buy what you want and need today.

If she gets upset that you didn't wait longer for her to give you her used rugs, well, as they say, it's better to ask for forgiveness, than permission.

Meaning, if she were to get upset, just say, "Oh, I'm sorry, but I really needed to get my floors covered, and I had no Idea when you were going to be replacing yours, so I just went ahead and bought some new rugs."

It sounds like your friend has good intentions. You should not have to wait any longer. Go shopping and if you find something you like, you can text her and say, “I was out shopping and found these for my apartment. Thank you for your offer.” I can’t imagine that her feelings would be hurt as you did wait for 4 months. Life goes on.
