Tree limb problems

We came home from mass to find some tree limbs down, in our back yard. We had a storm last night ,and everything seemed OK. It was a bit windy while we were at church, and the limbs were lying on the ground and on Mr Cherry's pole barn, when we got home tonight

What really makes me a bit nervous, is a broken limb, caught in another tree limb and half dangling over the power lines. It is a huge limb about 8 inches in circumference at the tip and it is a good foot or more around ,where it broke off from the tree trunk

Being its the weekend ,there is no one to call, and the entire surrounding area is filled with power outages. We are going to get another storm tonight, and if we have high winds, I am afraid the limb will land on the power lines

I am worried about an electrical fire if this happens..Mr Cherry managed to leave a message for Edison on their facebook site.

Have any of you ever had this happen to you? I don't think we can call the fire dept, because there is no fire ,and we can't get hold of a real person at the Edison company.

The fire department may be able to contact them or have power turned off so they can remove it. Just a suggestion, I don’t know because my wires are underground.

Storms passed through central Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday causing many outages. We did our clean up today and were grateful that we never lost power.

If it’s dangling over a power line, I wd call the emergency number for your local utility company. We had a line suddenly hanging over the driveway gate at our city place two weeks ago, and the power company came right out.

I think I would contact my fire department, as someone just mentioned. Better safe than sorry. I hope they can help you.

I called the fire dept ,and they are sending someone out to look at it. You can't get a real person to talk to at the utilitiy dept. Mr Cherry tried . It is all, leave your name and address ,and we will get back to you. Things are so bad here , dear knows when that will be.

This area is surrounded by tons of trees so we have this happen all the time. We call the police who in turn has the fire dept and utility company come. Usually police and fire arrive first. Then utility will take the bucket loader and cut the limb.

The fire dept called and said there is nothing they can do, they are trying to get in touch with DTE. They told me to keep trying too

I was able to get through ,and so I told them a wire was down. There is no way I can report tree limb damage, it isn't an option. At least this will get the attention of a real person. There was no way I could tell anyone what had happened, it is all automated. They still might not get to us for a long time. The fire dept said if we see any arcing on the wire ,to call them right away. They are still trying to reach them

Isn't just ridiculous @cherry , after a serious storm there's not a single soul to report power problems to...here's a thought power companies, call in employees to answer the darn phone. I had to call the State Police today to get help, they came out right away & had a number to contact a crew so 12 hours later they removed the tree & repaired the loud humming sparking transformer....honestly what an awful way to run an utility company. I worked 5 hours cleaning up downed limbs in my yard & have more to do but it was so hot I had to stop. We really got spanked by that storm last night & another moved through tonight with more wind damage...ugh.

There are 360,000 people without power, right now ,and more storms today

I think you call your power company on the emergency line and notify them of the power line situation and they send someone out right away to assess it.

That's just DTE customers. There are approximately 120,000 Consumers Energy customers on the other side of the state without power as well. Fortunately, the storms are largely over and the heat wave has passed.

Both of the major power companies in Michigan (Consumers Energy & DTE) also respond to /help people out via Facebook messenger. But if you don't "do" Facebook, well, then you can't avail yourself of that option.

You've done what you can, @cherry . By rights the only people allowed to access debris that close to high wire lines is the electric company (or their authorized contractor). Sounds like they are swamped.

I sincerely hope danger passes quickly and things are restored to a semblance of normalcy, very soon. I'm certain I would be anxious, as well. I live in an old forested area myself.

In our area the power company will handle trees that poses direct hazard to power lines. This is on a case by case basis. Call them and see. Weekends wouldn’t stop our crews.

WE have 500,000 people without power state wide ,and thousands of power lines are down, that would stop anyone
