Oh myyyy...I can only imagine what people are going through right now...my Mom just left New York after a 10 day vacation. I hope they resolve the issue soon...it is too hot to be without power.

It has increased to over 61K customers without power. I could not handle being in a subway in the heat and dark...and I don’t even like elevators when the lights are on!

It was 85 degrees when the power went out...and has been very humid today...can only imagine how unbearable it is for folks in their apartments with no a/c. Even an open window won’t offer much relief....but maybe the night will get cooler. I hope people check on their elderly neighbors.

OMG! Thank you for posting this. Just turned on the TV to see what is going on. I live in the next borough and also have Con Ed, our fingers are crossed that it does not happen here. Lived in NYC through 2 blackouts and let me tell you, it is not a pretty picture. There was so much looting, it was horrendous. Just praying it does not happen this time.

Ditto!! That seems to happen everytime there’s a blackout in NYC.Which isn’t often.We sure know how to pass the time!!😂😂

I feel bad for those stuck in elevators & trains!! They must be miserable in the heat.Other than that New Yorkers are resilient.They’ll be fine.

Last place I'd want to be without power. Guess cellphones work, though.

Back up generator is the thing to have.

We got one that keeps kitchen and master bedroom going

freezer, refrig , few lights

Am glad it started before the sun went down...at least most were able to get their stores closed and gates down. It is in the area where the nice hotels and shows are so probably mostly tourists.

This is not first blackout.

In the late 60's there was an entire blackout along the east coast.

There was one in the 70's.

Elevators and subways are the worse.

People living in high rise apartments must take stairs.

It is not comfortable.

It is like going thru a storm without the convenience of power.

People go outside and sit. Go on roofs. Life goes on, and yes 9 months there are babies born because it is nice to have a hug when you do not know what is going on!

Safety for all.

Do not panic, just sit and wait it out, there is nothing to do.
