The five-count superseding indictment (read it below) unsealed in 18 pages of court documents alleges Kelly and members of his entourage recruited women and girls to "engage in illegal sexual activity with the singer.

It says Kelly and his managers, bodyguards and other assistants picked out women and girls at concerts and other venues and arranged for them to travel to see Kelly. They also set rules the women and girls had to follow, including not leaving their rooms — even to eat or go to the bathroom — without Kelly's permission, calling the singer "Daddy," and not looking at other men, the indictment alleges. Kelly is the only individual named in the indictment.

The indictment alleges that the criminal acts occurred over two decades dating back to 1999, both in the U.S. and overseas. It accuses Kelly of engaging in sexual acts with girls under 18 and without disclosing that he had a sexually transmitted disease. It also accuses him of producing child pornography, including by asking minors to send him photographs.

"Today that comes to an end," U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Richard Donoghue said in a statement. "This indictment makes clear that neither fame, power nor status will not shield from prosecution predators who victimize members of our communities for their own sexual gratification."

Federal authorities are seeking any interest or property Kelly may have obtained in connection with the first racketeering account as forefeiture. It wasn't immediately clear what exactly that would include or how much it'd be worth.

After R. Kelly was arrested on federal sex charges in Chicago Thursday night, his crisis manager, Darrell Johnson, says his legal team was expecting the indictment to happen but he doesn't know what the charges are yet. "Mr. Kelly has declared his innocence from day one," said Johnson.

The 52-year-old was arrested Thursday night in Chicago by Homeland Security Investigations agents and NYPD Public Safety Task Force after a separate indictment was handed down in federal court for the Northern District of Illinois. He was taken into custody around 7 p.m. local time, a law enforcement source familiar with the case said. He was being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, according to the Federal Prisons Bureau website.

Steve Greenberg, an attorney for Kelly confirmed his arrest in a statement early Friday, adding "the agents were courteous and professional, as was Mr. Kelly."

"The conduct alleged appears to largely be the same as the conduct previously alleges against Mr. Kelly in his current State indictment and his former State charges that he was acquitted of," Greenberg said. "Most, if not all of the conduct alleged, is decades old."

Kelly made his initial court appearance Thursday night and faces another hearing Friday related to his extradition to New York City to face the additional charges. The separate indictments in the two major American cities include no victim overlap.

Greenberg said Kelly already has a team of "outstanding" federal litigators and was not surprised by the new allegations.

"He and his lawyers look forward to his day in court, to the truth coming out and to his vindication from what has been an unprecedented assault by others for their own personal gain. Most importantly he looks forward to being able to continue to making wonderful music and perform for his legions of fans that believe him."

A bail hearing will be held early next week, at which time Greenberg says Kelly hopes to be released from custody. Prosecutors in Illinois, however, filed a detention memo asking that Kelly remained jailed pending trial.

Investigators in New York issued a scathing series of statements condemning Kelly for preying "upon young women and teenagers whose dreams of meeting a superstar soon turned into a nightmare of rape, child pornography and forced labor," as one of the lead officials, Homeland Security Investigations New York Special Agent in Charge Angel Melendez said in a statement. "R. Kelly believed he could fly, but it will be justice to see his oppressive wings clipped."

NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill echoed those sentiments, saying, "Those who engage in these reprehensible offenses against our most vulnerable will be pursued relentlessly, and held accountable for the pain and suffering they cause."

Andrea Kelly, the singer's ex-wife, had no comment following the arrest, her rep said.

I thought he was locked up . Why do these offenders keep getting released??? That rich guy who was just arrested on his private plane no less. Why was he allowed to be out walking around all this time. Now he wants to buy himself out of jail. It's just ridiculous.

R. Kelly is one, sick man. He needs to be locked up. So many charges that they all can't be wrong. He had to be locked up in order to finally pay his child support -- how pathetic is that? I say lock him up and throw away the key.

Did you all forget about Bill Cosby? How many years did it take before he saw the inside of a prison? That's the way this R Kelly thing will go. It will be many trials and appeals and many years before he ends up behind bars. There will probably be more arrests too. That's how these things go.

@lovesrecess he's not working and hasn't for a while. He was dropped by his record company. He doesn't own his own music. He was evicted from at least one of his homes/studios in Chicago. He can't get concerts in the States. The judge denied his request to travel Internationally after his lawyer couldn't prove Kelly had potential concerts in Europe. The money is no longer there for him to spend unlimited amounts. Even his lawyers know there's a possibility they may not be paid but ultimately the publicity will be better than the money.

It's not wasting time from his perespective. It's to his benefit to stretch the whole process out as long as possible and it will be years. He knows he's going to prison for many years and he'd be fool not to stretch it out as long as it's legally possible. That's the way our judicial system works. He has money; he's not performing but he is still receiving the royalties on the work he did in the past. Also he wrote and produced music for other performers and he still and always will receive royalties on that work. He has money for his attorneys but defense attorneys don't work just for the money. They also work to further their legal reputations and to get their names and the names of their law firms out there. They need a steady flow of clients.

His income has to have stopped. Whatever assets he has (real estate?), he is going to have to sell.

I wonder who will post bail this time, if they let him post bail?

And who will pay the bills to keep the two ladies he has been supporting all these years in the home with utilities and food? I suspect they will be evicted at some point.

In reading the report, it seems like his former and possibly current entourage have finally turned on him and are the ones who provided the evidence/video tapes, plane ticket info.

RK was arrested this time by the FEDs. Different rules applies. Federal criminal cases differ from State charges in that there is no system of bail or bail bonds in federal cases.
Instead there is a pre trial release program with its own rules and procedures.

The same "folks" who are paying the bills for the other girls/women he has stashed in other states/cities notably in New York & Atlanta.
RK has many " wealthy supporters" as well as siblings.

I suspect the same. I am sure the FEDs threats of spending decades in prison for human trafficking conspiracy made a world of difference.

I'm not defending R Kelly but I've read several biographies of rock stars and rock bands and many of them would have their roadies pick out certain girls from the audience to have "fun with" after the show. And many preferred underage girls - 14, 15, 16 years old. The younger the better. Of course that was then and this is now.

Look what happened to Jerry Lee Lewis' career when he married his 13 year old cousin back in the day.
