I think I remember him more from the 60's and 70's. He did a lot of tv, like Bonanza, Dr Kildare, Ben Casey, and he had a regular guest appearance on the Untouchables. If you go to IMDB and cue in his name there a list of TV and film appearances going back to 1956. But I think he was better known on the stage. Early on he had a reputation as an actors actor. I remember him goinng back that far, cause my Dad always commented on his name.

For some reason I used to get these three actors mixed up; they were all in a lot of things around the same time period. Rip Torn, Bradford Dillman and Dean Stockwell. I'd especially mix up the latter two and never could remember which was which.

As for Rip, some of you may remember him in a Columbo episode that plays fairly frequently on the Oldies networks. He is the uncle of a newphew who wins the lottery, and stupidly entrusts the winning lottery ticket with his uncle. Rip (the uncle) kills his nephew and cashes in the winning ticket of course.
