Dollar Tree Plus?

Saw a sign on the Dollar Tree door yesterday that said “ Dollar Tree Plus”as I was going inside to get birthday cards....was surprised to find many items are now $3 and $5....this must be an attempt to move some Family Dollar merchandise into these stores as they close them. I know they are owned by the same company....but a bit disappointing to pick up something that is $5 in my good ol’ Dollar Tree...it was mostly name brands but not many larger sizes. Do you think this will help or hurt their sales?

Hurt it. When shoppers go into a Dollar Tree they expected to pay $1.00, that's the reason for going there...you would think management would understand that simple fact. Shoppers can go to any discount store to pay more & get a larger selection of items too. Two local Dollar Generals closed because it's a dollar store that isn't really a $1.00 store so why make the same mistake with Dollar Tree....good grief.

I have enjoyed DOLLAR TREE, just for that reason, that anything you picked up was , indeed, a DOLLAR!!.....I have never even been in any of the other so called "dollar" stores....

I go to Dollar General fairly often and even though not everything is $1 I do save money on things like cat food, paper products, bottled water, etc.

I love Dollar Tree! I don’t like having to figure out the price of something because it isn’t marked or it was out on the wrong shelf...or even worse, having to scan it myself to see how much it is....doesn’t work most of the time anyway...Dollar Tree is the only so-called dollar store I visit ...the others are full of old, expired merchandise that I would never buy....and very few things are one dollar!

I don’t even think we have a Dollar General here...the only ones I have been in were while we were on vacation or out of town for other reasons.

Okay! I stand corrected...the merchandise must be coming over from Family Dollar then...to me, they are the same thing since we have neither of them in our area. Glad you cleared that up!

I hope they don't change ours.

It was so easy to keep track of how much I was spending and it was fun to go in with $11 ($10 for stuff and $1 for sales tax) and come out with a bag or two full of stuff.

Interesting @SharkE. In my area both Dollar Generals have closed & there are 3 Dollar Trees with a 4th opening soon..there aren't any Family Dollar stores, I never heard of them. I like Dollar Tree & shop there often.

I did read an article in my google news feed quite awhile ago, which said that if you pay attention, there are some good items to be discovered for that One Dollar.

Dollar Tree hopes that you pick out a blend of products instead of the items they purchased at a Wholesale price of .90.

Some of their products could cost .05/wholesale.

But if the customer can discern which things are a true bargain for $1,

and choose wisely, some great deals are there.

I totally agree. I’ve even wondered how can the store afford to stay open

with the overhead/etc. costs when everything is $1.

Sometimes I throw in some useless, plastic disposable item, because I just bought 6 cards at 2-for-$1!

Since I want the store to stay in business, I’ll grab a few junk items along with the Barbasol shave cream, toilet plunger, and helium party balloons!

I like the Dollar Tree because of the siimpicity of it --- everything $1 --- that's it.

Now, the Dollar General --- prices are all over the place. They are not always that cheap either. I don't like to hear that some of the items from Dollar General are being integrated into Dollar Tree. The next thing you know I suppose, Dollar Tree price of everything $1, will be no more.

I'd go to family dollar website, click on 'locations' and just for the fun of it see where the nearest one to you would be. Put in your zip code and it will bring up if you have any close to you.

So many dollar this dollar that I can't keep track of them. I'm not that thrifty, so, I don't go in any of them that often. Whereas, tighty whitey DH goes weekly. ROFLMBO

@colliemom4 I did read a few articles in the business section of our newspaper a while back that Dollar Tree was going to start carrying items that are more than $1. I thought "Phooey!"

I seldom go to Dollar General and Family Dollar is out of my way. But I'm often in Dollar Tree. If I can get some things from the other stores without going there, even if they are $3 or $5, I won't mind.

I wonder if this is temporary while they get rid of merchandise. If it's a permanent change for Dollar Tree, I won't like that.

I gave up shopping Dollar Tree. I prefer to spend a bit more for products made in the US. I won't buy anything made in China, I don't care how inexpensive it is. Junk.
