Ridgecrest just had a 7.1 quake

Over a thousand aftershocks and Ridgecrest just got hit with a 7.1 (eleven times higher than yesterday's quake). I am hoping for the best for all my friends in RC and am so glad my grandsons are visiting me now. We sold our two story in Ridgecrest 7 mths ago ( hope it's alright but glad we don't have to coordinate possible repairs from afar).

I have a brother who lives in CA...hope he is doing okay...he should be at work right now....Disney....I have never experienced an earthquake except a very mild one when the windows in our school rattled a bit...can’t imagine a more helpless and terrifying feeling with these stronger ones.

I'm in north LA County and we are definitely feeling them, just had another small one a minute ago. My son works in Ridgecrest and called the office and they all ran outside and saw all their neighbors all in the streets.

A little scary, but its better to have smaller ones to relieve pressure. I have oversized letters spelling LOVE perched on one shelf and the "V" fell over.

As I'm typing this, just got anther aftershock...yikes, it might be a long night.

I’m a follower of Earthquake Alerts on Twitter....

and there are pages & pages & pages of reported activity

in that area all day long...levels of 2, 3, 4, 5+.

just talked to my s/o......he said he felt it and it definitely shook him up a bit. he has not felt that one that strong in quite a while. all is well though.

he is a bit worried that these could be "before shocks" rather than "after shocks."

Very Scary!!!! I live ten miles from downtown LA and this was definitely a 7.1!!! The windows were rattling and shaking and I did not know what to do as I was finishing up dishes in my kitchen... The rolling lasted longer and the whole bottom floor of my townhome shook!!!!

I’m 180 miles from the epicenter. I was outside watering, and suddenly the pool started sloshing back and forth.I grabbed the water slide I was standing next to and we were rocking and rolling for several seconds ! 😳

California would be a scary place when those quakes hit. I remember 1989 when that earth quake hit.

Okay we’re by the Long Beach, CA Airport. 7.1 earthquake and it was horrible. Lasted a long time. Really scary! No damage, we have power. Our son is at Kern River...Rivernook Campgrounds. Just a few miles from Ridgecrest. He said it was HORRIBLE. No power there. He said they could hear the ground grinding back and forth. This is horrible. It was a rolling motion.

I felt that one. I am down in Menifee, CA. It was strong enough for me to get up and get in my door frame. My brother and SIL are in Henderson Nevada, for the fourth of July Holiday. My SIL sent me a text and said that was big.

I feel for the people in the Ridgecrest area. We are lucky, it's scary for us in Riverside County, Orange County, or L.A. County, but it's nothing compared to what the people who are actually by the epicenter are feeling/experiencing.

There was a press conference with USGS, other people from California will recognize Dr. Lucy Jones, she is a renown scientist out here who always speaks whenever there is a an earthquake. A member of the press asked the stupidiest question ever, something about an above ground earthquake. (Sigh) I cracked up laughing at the Dr's response.

Dr. Lucy Jones said that yesterday’s was the precursor to tonight’s 7.1. I found that interesting. They are saying major road damage in the Ridgecrest area.

my daughter in West Hills, Ca was hit with 7.1 as well. she sent me a video of the water in her pool coming up in a small wave. you coul have rode a surf board!

my granddaughter in Burbank was in car, and it felt like a bump in road

What’s bad is it being at night and it’s dark so they can’t see to check roads, etc. now they are worried about the dam in that area.....Kern County.

My chair moved, my chandelier above the dining table where I was working on my laptop swayed, and I looked and saw other items swaying. I went outside for a couple minutes. I'm not real close to the epicenter, but definitely felt this. It took a half hour before there was news on it. I had to google first to find out there was a 7.1 in Ridgecrest. There needs to be a better news/alert system. Dr. Lucy Jones is a national gem in giving us information.

I'm in a suburb of Los Angeles, (South Bay ) and felt a rolling movement. It lasted for a long time, 30 seconds more or less. No damages that I can see. I have been through a lot worse, so I don't panic any more. We have been fortunate, never experienced any real losses. I'm sorry for all those in harm's way.

Learning who all of my fellow Californians are on this forum. Was home in Glendale yesterday morning and that was good enough to make pool water slosh and grandfather clock chimes to hit each other and make noise for many minutes after. Down in North Tustin at my daughter's home this evening and we really felt it (they did not yesterday). Water in pool really moving house rolling.

Interesting, I thought Dr. Lucy had retired a few years ago. Have always listened to her after we have an earthquake. A few posters said she was on the television tonight. Maybe she has come out of retirement. Will look her up on YouTube to see if I can find her interview. Feel very sorry for those in the Ridgecrest area.

@Flatbush I thought by your nic you were in Brookyn, NY! We have a few posters here who are. I used to live in Brooklyn but I'm in Bucks Co, Pa now.
