I recently found out someone is naming their baby "River."

Is this usually a boy or a girl name? I looked this up online and received both as answers!

It can be either.

It's one of those names that can go both ways, like Pat, or Chris.

I once knew a woman named River, but then again, there's River Phoenix, a male.

As I said, it's a name that can be used by a male or a female.

Both. I think Kelly Clarkson's daughter is named River Rose. And there was the late actor River Phoenix.

I suppose it could be either. The only River I can think of is the late actor, River Phoenix, so I guess I'd tend to think of it as a male name.

I think it's either. And on a show I watched a girl was named Rivers instead of River.

We know two children with the name River. One is a boy and one is a girl. I think it is definitely a unisex name.

My hair stylist named her daughter "Sloane." I think that may qualify as unisex.

My personal preference for naming is to distinguish boy/girl.

I read an article that said that females with unisex names did better in the business environment.

I passed it on to my stylist!

My nephew named his baby girl River. When I told my son that, whose wife was pregnant with a girl, he said he was going to name her “Tree.” That made me laugh.

My thoughts/feelings is that people do things like that for no other reason to be different and get attention. River is not a name whether it's for a boy or girl, it's a thing.

River comes across as a boy's name to me. However, that might be because my friend's niece named her twins, River and Brooke. River is the boy, Brooke is the girl.
