Woo-Hoo! 4 Bluebird Eggs on Mother's Day!

Noticed that a nest had been built in one of my Bluebird boxes last week, checked it today and there's 4 eggs in one and another nest started in another!

We typically get 5-6 eggs in each box per nest, so there might be 1-2 more eggs to come, they lay them 1 day apart, so that they hatch 1 day apart.

They're so much fun to watch when they're nesting/hatching, to me anyway!

Watching Dad take food to Mom while she's sitting on them, then Dad does diaper duty once they hatch and he guards them while Mom takes a break and eats.

Believe me, as small as they are, when they have babies in the nest, they're meaner than any blue jay or mockingbird, LOL!

Kingston, my avatar, will have to be diligent in guarding them though, a red hawk was also in our backyard this morning when KIngston was out for his walk!

He only runs off the big crows, hawks when they're in our yard, to protect the other birds we feed, raise, etc.

And bluebirds or most any other bird besides an eagle (we have those too!) is no match for a bird of prey.

I rescued a baby Bluejay once who had fallen out of the nest waaay up in a tree.

We became very attached. But, brought s/he to Tufts Wildlife so the baby could be reacclimated back into the wild. Broke my heart, but thought it was the right thing to do.

I've dusted off the binoculars, I love to see those cute little bald bluebird heads, peeking out, waiting for food when Mom & Dad get back and watching them gobble it, one at a time!

Sorry to all if I sound goofy, but I love Mother Nature!

How nice. My husband and I when living in GA had a very productive blue bird box but he really catered to the Mama’s. He bought live mill worms and fed them daily and we would watch her feeding her babies. It was also amazing seeing her cleaning out their box. What a joy to see them fly the nest. I miss that so I know you must enjoy.

That's awesome! I keep seeing Daddy bluebird flying in and out of the house we have. Hoping we would get a nest this year.
