The 21st Century so far . . .

. . . So far has not been a joy. We can’t trust the air we breathe, we can’t trust the food we eat nor the water we drink, we have to be alert everytime we go out in public, or to a movie or even our workplaces. Parents who still have children send their kids to school every day with fear in their hearts. Everyone lies these days. We can’t trust what we hear, or read, or even see.

Forget feeling relieved when the doctor doesn’t find anything wrong with you, forget trusting medications, hospital care. In fact forget everything you always thought about health. First it’s good, then it’s bad.

We can’t even be sure our kids will have an earth fit to live in after we’re gone.

I won’t go into the rest for obvious reasons. It’s just all too exhausting.

On the flip side, not everyone lies. In fact most don't. This environment is temporary. Normalcy will return- it will take time, but it will return.

Medical strides are huge, technology is off the chain. I think we're going to be ok.

Lilac Tree, I can't say I disagree with you. On the other hand, every century in history has been deep in problems. Keep your loved ones close and take joy in your personal relationships and everyday positive signs. For me, it's how I keep my sanity. Sometimes I feel a sense of despair, then I have to try to put the problems of the world in perspective. Live your life with integrity, do the best you can and love those you are close to.

When I was young, I thought by now many of the issues that plagued us in the 50’s and 60’s would be so much better. Sometimes it feels like we have learned nothing.

There has always been fear.Fear of war,illness,the state of the worlds air,food problems.Will always be.As for lying,it has been around.Drs.the most part do what they can,limited by insurance and laws.There is more healthcare,treatments available also more diagnosis of disease once not known.One can look at the worlds problems and cry or live your best life.Only WE have the option of living our own standards.How can you possibly live with such terrible outlooks on everything.Every generation has its peeves.

What LilacTree wrote is not a negative or nihilistic view of present-day life. Rather, she wrote some sobering truths. Yes, they may be her truths and not yours, but I see things as she does. It is sad. It is deplorable. Speaking for myself, I think of these views as rooted in realism.

We can only do our best and go forward, trying to change what seems to be off course. So much is veering away from the good, yes. But if we do nothing, we are left to wither along with our ideals and the better angels of our nature.

I don't know what your situation is, but sounds like you spend too much time in bed. Get out, get some fresh air, exercise & enjoy spring.

@LilacTree So sad but oh so true of most of what you said.

I will say though, I think it's important for us to find good Drs/Nurses to care for us. If we can do this, we can trust in them and all they do for us.

It's become necessary for us to take up for US, ourselves. No one else or very few will. This falls mostly along the lines of what we eat. We've not realized but we've needed to do this in the 1960s when fast foods, processed foods hit the grocery stores. By now for sure many of us have done ourselves in with convenient easy eating. So now it's clean organics.

It's almost too late for us to totally clean up our acts because bottom line for me is we've done ourselves in, killing our aqua life, animals, plants, ground earth ground water, atmosphere just to note a few.

We are killing ourselves. We've been doing this pretty much since the end of WW2 when we became 'progressive'. So sad, we all should feel your pain and many of us do but still do not take part in doing anything about any of our dying world.

The end is much nearer that we want to admit and it's ALL OUR FAULT.

What you say is so true and I don't think most realize how serious it is.

There's a lot we aren't being told. What we are told is often not the truth, so we don't know who to believe, or we follow along like sheep never questioning.

@bathina Unfortunately normalcy as you call it will not return any time soon if at all if our (world) leaders do not recognize all we've done to our world and get back to fixing it. Much of all that needs fixing will not even begin if laws are created to not do anything or even listen to our scientists who know all we've done badly.

That may be how you see the world @LilacTree , but it's not how others, myself included choose to see the world, and no, we are not going through life with our eyes closed.

They are open. In fact, they are wide open.

We just choose to focus on the positive instead, and yes, it is a choice.

It is your choice to focus on the negative.

It is our choice to focus on the positive.

Life is easier when you do focus on what makes you happy, instead of what makes you depressed.

Joy is in what we make of life and what we give to others. Thinking of others and reaching out trying to make this a better world is paramount to my happiness in life. I am and always have been a glass half full kind of person. I think it as a gift especially during hard times.

As far as not trusting physicians? Sure, there are some bad apples but for the most part I wouldn't be on the planet without the caring, skilled medical care I have received over the years. One crisis after another and I am still here to reply on this thread. I consider that a blessing and a gift. Life is a gift and I don't intend one minute of it spent on complaints about what it should be.

Cheer up! I recommend watching less news. They get you worked up about a lot of stuff. Stuff you would otherwise not even be thinking about.
