Mandatory Gift???

Is it me or is this just wrong??? YOU are turning 60 and you decide to celebrate your 60 years by throwing yourself a party with lots of food, drinks, entertainment, etc. And you are inviting upwards of 50 people. Is it appropriate to say in the invitation Gifts Mandatory? Is it me or is this just wrong?

people can do whatever they want and request whatever they want. may be wrong, may not be wrong.....

bottom line is is it is up to you to decide if you want to celebrate and take a gift or not.

If you want gifts , I wouldn't ask for them outright. People might feel a bit awkward

If you don't ,you might ask people to share a memory or a photo. I have read invitations saying please honor us with your presence not presents..

I am thinking they just are a bit mixed up. They might have meant to say please no gifts

I have never heard of anyone asking for a gift in an invitation

Never in my 69 years on Earth have I seen or heard of an invitation that stated gifts mandatory. If i received an invation like this I would trash it and skip the party. Thankfully i don't know anyone who would send an invatation like this.

I would send my regrets ASAP! (unless you can think of a really ugly vase or something to re-gift)) Then if it’s mentioned say you didn’t see a registry listed.

That makes sense that it might have meant to say NO gifts Mandatory. If so this individual will surely be embarrassed.

@sunshine45 You are absolutely right. And I realize that rather than use the word "wrong" maybe tacky is more appropriate.

I have to agree. It sounds like the host is going all out to give a party, that I’d love to attend. I would of course bring a gift to a party like this.

I think the host might just be stating the obvious, to see how people react!

Maybe more people will actually attend the party, now that everyone’s attention has been piqued.

Of course it's not appropriate to tell invitees that gifts are mandatory. Maybe it's a joke. How well do you know this person? If I didn't know the person well, I'd toss the invitation. If I knew the person well, I'd probably know what was meant by that request!
