Unbelievable shipping

I bought two pairs of Birkenstock’s on EBay this past Saturday. New with tags/buy it now. Nothing remarkable there.

I bought them from a company in England. Tons of great reviews. No concerns there really about them being in Europe.

Free shipping. Hey....count me in.

They’ll be delivered anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks because they’re coming from England. Ok, no problem.

Well, they’re out for delivery TODAY. Three days after I ordered them. Now, that’s some GREAT shipping!!!

Is good. Sounds as if they stashed a supply somewhere in the States in anticipation of sales on the free ship day. Were you able to trace their progress from England?

@Equuleus They’re out for DELIVERY today. I even got an email from DHL this morning reminding me that I have a package being delivered today.

I've had that same experience on Amazon, mistakenly ordered a product from China years ago. It may have shipped quickly (so I couldn't cancel). I stil had to wait the month for the product to arrive. Learned my lesson to pay attention when ordering from Amazon.

@gidgetgh I have had the same experience when I order direct from Radley London and it always is amazing to me that my purses arrive so fast. So glad you are having a similar experience with your shoes!

Once or twice a year, I order from a company whose warehouse is in Germany. I order on Sunday evening and get my order on Wednesday.

I shop with a couple UK retailers and I get my purchases in 2 weeks or a tad over.

@gidgetgh- Enjoy your new Birkenstocks! DHL is a company I used while in England; they're similar to FedEx and UPS. What I found there was that some of them would ship certain things internationally, while others wouldn't.

But once things were shippped, the delivery was quite quick.

@gidgetgh Did you have to pay duty charges.I remember a poster talking about purchasing a bridesmaid dress from England and the duty was more than the dress.i also don’t know how one can order from amazon but the product is sent from China and not have duty charges.How is duty determined.

I bought an 1811 embroidered sampler on eBay from England. Framed. Huge package. Arrived within 10 days. I thought that was exceptional.

While duty may be charged on clothing coming into the U.S. from England, the amount is based on the value of the item. It's a percentage, so I don't see how it could've been more than the dress itself. That makes no sense.

It could be that the purchaser was confusing the duty with the overall combined cost of getting the item (shipping, duty, etc.). The only other explanation would be that the dress was a "steal", but the actual value was perceived to much higher than the price paid. Duty and customs is a complicated business!
