MSNBC has footage from an outlet BFM TV Paris which shows flames but it also looks like the area where the fire is may be under some kind of construction as there is lots of scaffolding.

Fire at Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral was started by accident and is related to ongoing work, according to France 2, citing police. Either way it is terrible and a hideous blow to the symbolic heart of the city

It breaks my heart when historic buildings are destroyed. Windsor Castle was another tragedy

I wonder if Notre Dame is part of the UN historical treasures, protected buildings treaty?
