we are currently renting a home in IN and have given our notice to vacate. Our record is: we are very responsible ON TIME flawless tenants, we are immaculate inside and out..we are 58 yrs old couple and are building a home that will take one yr for completion so we are moving to be closer to our property..here's the issue: the landlord just wrote and said she has several people interested in the house (100 yr old victorian ...great house) but wants to show it in "groups" of people towards the end of this week..she expects the house to be clean and orderly (always is, no problem) and she expects us to vacate the property during showings..now here is the issue: obviously she needs to show the house, not a problem and it should be nice, not a problem..us leaving?? a big problem, my husband and I both work from home and have home offices filled with laptops, computers, scanners, printers, I have two (QVC lol) jewelry armoires that do not lock!!! I have tons of makeup,etc...in a makeup armoire that does not lock..this landlord cannot possible watch everyone in this two story home at once..we have all the stuff everyone has..flatscreens, knicknacks, we have an extensive wire rach of gourmet food sitting out..4 shelves of gourmet food (we are cooks) ...we do not feel comfortable leaving all of this stuff out and we do not feel that we should have to lock it up somewhere...we also have plans to watch our two grandchildren Friday afternoon thru Sunday morning, during that time we have a cookout planned, etc..we've told her this and she says it is not acceptable..our lease says 24 hr notice..which by emailing today she has given us..it says nothing about vacating the premises,etc...anyone a landlord, attorney and can inform me??thanks so much! jackie
