I saw a topic about music yesterday that got me thinking ....

I have boxes of CDs and Cassettes and two CD players and 2 cassette players - but when I feel like listening to music, all I do is tune into the Soundscapes Music Choice channel.

I realized that I was missing "my" mood music so I got all the CDs out.

Years ago, I catalogued the CDs I had up to that point .... numbered and entered into a database. I had a printout - but have no idea where it is, and the database was on an old computer that's long gone and had never been backed up on an external drive.

So - last night I spent hours re-entering all the numbered CDs into an Excel spreadsheet and also entering the ones w/o a number ... I'll assign numbers over the weekend when I have some time.

All together I have just over 300 CDs ... and my goal over the next couple of weeks / months - to play every single one of them. I have a really great collection of music.

I ordered another Atlantic Wave CD tower from Amazon ... it will be here tomorrow.

Next ... I plan on doing the cassettes. There are boxes of boxes of them. I ordered something to display them - having them stored away on boxes doesn't make much sense ... if I see them, I'll play them.

Looking forward to "my" music again! Just going through them last night brought back so many memories! I have so much stuff you just don't hear anymore!

Glad you are enjoying it! I've never catalogued all the music I have!

For someone who teaches it day in and day out, I rarely listen to music for the sheer pleasure of it these days. And I know lots of music!

Have fun with your collection!

I wish we only had 300 cassettes and CD’s to catalog! DH has thousands of them all through the house and in all 3 of our cars, as well. I’m sure he has duplicates (maybe triplicates) of many of them. Last week I told him he had to start developing an inventory and weeding out those he doesn’t want or can’t play anymore. So far, he hasn’t done anything. I’m not surprised - it’s a daunting task. I’m sure there are some valuable and/or collectible items there. However, if he dies before I do, I’d have absolutely no idea how to distribute or dispose of them. He, on the other hand, would probably point to my clothing collection. . .

@fthunt Vinyl is popular again! He got rid of most of his record albums and turntable years ago. Then, a couple of years ago, he bought a new turntable and new albums started appearing in the house. His explanation - vinyl’s back, Baby! I agree, though, at some point that stuff’s going to make some dumpster diver very happy.
