Reflection: To Return or Not

As I „fought“ with my one size fits all sunglasses purchased from QVC, I thought of how I didn’t return because of cost or inconvenience. Do you find yourself doing this? I wonder if this is becoming more frequent? How do you handle on line purchasing?

I buy most everything on line. I've learned if its not right, does not fit, send it back. I've made the mistake of missing the deadline and being stuck. Some of these things I sell on ebay. I keep all the original packaging and slips. You can also for QVC print a return slip on line. If something is not right or does not fit, you have thirty days to decide. I pack it up and take it to the post office. Done. I know returns are expensive so I mostly buy what I know will fit me or I will like. Sometimes you just have to take a chance on something though.

The cost of the product factors into my decision to return or not. If it's not expensive I won't bother, if it cost a lot I will definitely send it back.

If an item is not what I expected or doesn't match, doesn't fit, etc. I definitely do a return. No matter what store. I know many people don't, but I make it a point to return anything that doesn't "work out."

I return if it doesn't work for me. It seems like a pain, but after a few times, you get use to it. I don't return that much stuff, but have had to return a few things. I had ordered 3 pair of Vionics from qvc a few years ago, thinking they would fit like one pair I have, they did not. I sent them all back, too expensive not to.

I have not returned things that are cheap, because it doesn't seem worth the bother and hassle. If it is something more expensive, I'll go through the bother. Everyone' s definition of "cheap" will vary of course.

I will definitely return an item if it does not fit or is not what I wanted. When I first started shopping online I would not send back depending on the price of the item and return shipping costs. I have since educated myself and know that some retailers profit from this type of mindset. They know that there are customers who will not/can't return items...some even discourage returns.

I rarely order a clothing item that is more than $30. That way if I don't like it or it doesn't fit, I just donate it. If it's more expensive I will take the time/trouble/expense to return.

@Pearlee You're right, I don't! Think her stuff is awful. But then I don't buy SG or D&C at full price either. Only on lunchtime specials, as is, clearance, etc. Why would I pay the inflated prices of the Q when other stores, e.g, Macy's, has the same items for much less?

There are things that I don't love when they arrive and I should return them but I talk myself into keeping them or giving them to someone else. However, they tend to be inexpensive things. I don't return many things to any retailer and I do shop a lot but I know how to shop. I know what I like, I know my sizes. I don't make many mistakes. I also don't shop on impulse.

I do not keep what I do not love. I like when I can order on line and return to a local B&M store, like the patio umbrella I ordered from WM and found cheaper at Aldi. Delivered today, returning tomorrow.

I also invest $50.00/year in Return Saver dot com. Unlimited FedEx returns. I just print the shipping label at home, slap it on the package and drop it off at my local FedEx pickup point, which is a mile down the road from me. I pass by on nearly a daily basis. I have purchased this service for several years: a great value! Just used it today and generally use the service 2-3 times/month.

At local stores where I shop frequently I generally keep receipts anywhere from a week to a couple of months

Drop off points near me are Kinko's, a printing business and other similar business support locations. I buy Avery pre pasted labels at Staples or Amazon to make using the return labels as easy as possible.

I don't use Q's return labels either, unless the item is defective and Q doesn't deduct the cost from my refund in that case. I usually ship UPS, which when items (clothing) are bundled together in the box, is much cheaper than Q's label. But it seems like the Fed Ex route would really pay off. Thank you again for mentioning this. (I live near numerous dropoff points for Fed Ex, such as its Office stores.

I have this fight with myself every time I get something whether Q or other retailers.

If I can return to store w/in 25 miles I will but if I have to mail at my expense most times it's $10+ just to try on OR look at item I ordered. Then, I do the math & realize it's going in yard sale box OR clothing donation box at women's shelter!

I dropped of several t-shirt's, shoes, brand new bras. When a item cost $27.98 and $3.50 to ship -- doesn't fit to return at 7.95 + 3.50 + tax to me it makes no sense when it's 1/2 the price of the item😡😮

@Pearlee : the other bonus to Return Saver is that my returns to QVC and elsewhere are processed and credited in just a couple of days. I live in NJ, so that helps, but it's still much faster than returning bu USPS.

I refuse to keep anything that I'm not happy with. Yes I will return items if they don't work for me...otherwise they will sit taking up space and become a waste of money and an annoyance whenever I happen to look at it.

@queendiva I have never heard of "return saver dot com"!!!....thank you for the tip! I do use FedEx a lot for my returns since I have an account with them.

Same here about the cost of an item. I also will toss things that turn out wrong for me in my grandchildren's play things at my home. My four year old granddaughter loves scarves that did not work for me to the sunglasses my Dental Hygienist as the patients wear now while getting teeth cleaning. You never know what will give a child some fun play time.
