Carrot cake

I just turned into the main channel to see they were selling carrot cakes for,get this, $58.00 each. Are they crazy? My local Wegmans bakery makes their own Ultimate carrot cake for $23.00,and Betty Crocker has a cake mix one for $.99 cents. I hope people are not that crazy to pay those prices when you cake even make your own,not me

When I look at the price of Q food I figure at least $20-$25 of the cost is to cover S&H. Three, four , five or more pounds of food plus 5 pounds of dry ice with 2 day shipping is not inexpensive.

I know the claim but in reality there is no such thing as free shipping.

Anyone can buy a carrot cake mix. But good Lord those cake mixes aren't always that good. Carrot cake mix tastes like a spice cake, and so artificial tasting. I haven't tried qvc carrot cake, but I buy the worlds best, next to homemade from scratch from Sweet Lady Jane bakery in SoCal. Omg, the nuts are huge, you can see shreds of carrot, pineapple, raisins, coconut. The cream cheese frosting is so good. I used to make one from scratch, but so much work and mess! Then hoping the cake would be done enough. Also, after making carrot cake from scratch, I discovered I really don't want to know what is in it, lol. The cups of oil, the butter, nuts, sugar, cream cheese. Yikes!!! Better to buy one you love, and rip the ingredient list off!! Lol.. Plus it costs. A Lot to make one at home, none of the ingredients besides flour do I keep on hand. Then I bake so seldom now I wind up javing to buy extract, sugar, raisins, pineapple, coconut, etc...

@shoekitty I vouch for every word in your post. I've made several "home-made" carrot cakes in my life...even grated the carrots myself. Labor. time and ingredients made it worth more than $50 in my book.

A carrot cake mix is in no way a real carrot cake!! I have also made a carrot cake from scratch and use the best ingredients. Figuring the cost of ingredients and the time involved it is well worth paying $58 for one to come already made. I wouldn't eat a mediocre carrot cake as they just don't taste that great!

I will never understand why some care so much about what others choose to order and spend their money on! If OP or anyone is ok with a 99 cent cake mix then let them enjoy it but don't dictate to anyone what they like!!

I also have to add that it can serve 14-16 so that is less than $5 per serving. Can't get that at a restaurant and you won't get that many servings from a cake mix either. The ones I make would only get 8 -10 pieces also.

I want to say this about "My Grandmas Coffee Cake" that qvc sells--I buy a cinnamon/walnut "My Grandmas Coffee Cake" from Stop and Shop--it sells for $11.99--it is the same exact cake--same size exactly that they sell on qvc for $39!--I just checked it out yesterday bc I was curious bc I have seen those cakes sold on qvc so I checked the box I bought and went on the computer 2 check the same cake on qvc--that's way toooo much of a mark-up.......... 4-10-19

I make a carrot cake from scratch that’s delicious and easy to make. Sure, there are ingredients that you don’t want to eat all day everyday, but they definitely enhance the flavor and texture of the cake. It’s good to know Wegmans makes superior carrot cake in case I need one in a hurry.

There are many of us that do not live near Wegman's or Stop and Shop. Therefore, we do not have access to those fabulous deals. At the better grocery stores in suburban Minneapolis, cakes in the bakery case can easily cost $40 or more. They are not nearly as large as the one QVC offered.

You can hope all you want but some stranger saying I am crazy if I buy a $58 cake goes over like a lead balloon.

How about you bake your .99 cent cake and I will buy my $58 cake...And no I am not crazy. LOL

Never had Sweet Lady Jane carrot cake, but one of my ex-bosses would occasionally stop at the WeHo store on his way to work and brought in some of their pies and pastries for staff. They were some of the most outstanding baked goods I’ve ever had, better even than the famous Sacher torte another ex-boss brought back for staff on his visit to Austria. Vicarious living through employers!

First of all, the closest Wegman’s is 400 miles from me so that’s not a practical option.

Secondly, Wegman’s carrot cake is 54 ounces. The one from QVC is nearly twice that size at 6 pounds. In that regard, the price difference is not that great. In fact, I dare say the difference covers shipping.

I've ordered the carrot cake from the Q ... three times. It's that good ... and serves a large family gathering with some to spare.

I've had others from Sam's Club, Costco and a local bakery. The De lizioso Carrot Cake is the best I've ever had. I already have one in my freezer which I'll serve for Easter or when my son and daughter-in-law visit later this spring.

And no ... I'm not crazy. My money to spend as I see fit ...
