Are Uber cars all unmarked?

It seems dangerous to me, that people would get into a car, that shows no proof, they are working for Uber. I have never ridden in one, but, my son takes them, and seems to feel it is safe.

@cherry The cars are unmarked.When you order a car Uber gives you info on the person picking you up. They tell you the name of the driver & the type of car he’s driving. You can also track the car while it’s on it’s way to pick you up.

All Uber/Lyft cars that I have seen, have an Uber or Lyft sticker in the window.

Uber gives you the drivers licence plate and many often have a U hang tag

It is your responsibility to make sure you are getting in the correct vehicle

Such a terrible story. No Ubers or Lyfts I’ve taken we’re ever unmarked; always marked, and they text you the driver’s name, cell and vehicle make/model/license plate. I always confirm the license plate before i get in AND I always wait for the driver to say, “Hi...are you MJ12?” before I’d ever get in. Once I’m in the car, I immediately text the driver info to my husband or a coworker who knows of my plans. Every time. I hope they catch the criminal who did this.

@I am still oxox That sound great in theory, but ,if you were upset, because of some emergency, you might just get into one without being real careful.Ditto if you are ill ,and just need to get home, or to a Dr, or hospital asap

It was dark ,and she came from a bar, and might have had a drink or two, and just wasn't at the top of her game. It such a pity, she seemed like a wonderful young women . I hope they catch the evil person that did this

I am like you @cherry I have not used Uber and it is sad about this student. However, my son in Tampa uses them and he loves them. He has been fortunate to use the same driver most of the time.

I also have a friend in Savannah that loves Uber so like anything, even taxi cabs, we take a chance with rides. Having flashback...Uber reminded me of hitchhiking...getting a ride from a stranger. Okay I'm back now!

Both the UBER cars and the LYFT cars have reflective decals on their front windows, some put it on their back windows. The app gives your the driver's name and picture and also the color/make/license number of the car. LYFT gives you a picture of the car too. So, there is no reason for anyone to just jump in the wrong car. Having said that, people often do. It happened to my husband a few weeks ago, he drives a black SUV and he was giving a sick co-worker a ride home. He pulled up infront of their workplace to wait for her and some woman just hopped in the back seat. She never checked the license plate number or anything else, she just saw a black SUV and hopped her stupid self right in. At first, hubby thought he was being carjacked...LOL And when they figured it out, the dumb woman just giggled as she got out. They are safe, many times safer than a taxi because UBER and LYFT know where the rider and the passenger are but riders have to follow the safety rules.

I haven take Uber under all circumstances, the easiest way to know if the car is for you, is ask the driver who are you here to pick up. This is a horrible story, and young women need to be aware of their surroundings and never be so incapacitated that they can not understand a simple question .

Uber gives you the name and the plate number you always have to compare it. You get the info on the app, it is sad that this girl was taken advantage of

There is an Uber sticker in the window. You will know what your driver looks like and what kind of car he/she drives before he picks you up. Walk up to the door and ask him who he's there to pick up. He will know your name.

UBER and LYFT have reflect sticker decals in their windows and passengers are supposed to check before they get in the car. You check the decal, then you check the license plate before you get in.

@cherry I've taken two uber trips in the past four months and both times I had the driver's photos, their cars make and model, license plate number and their eta's.

The last one was at one o'clock in the morning at 30th street station in Philadelphia. I had a forty five minute drive and it was extremely pleasant.

Last sulmmer and fall I used Uber frequently after my surgery to go for followups and MD appointments. There was never a problem or issue. We now take Uber to the airport and back instead of leaving our car in long term parking. It's cheaper in the long run and easier in that nobody has to drive. Car service cars were always dirty and the drivers were often rude. Never found that with Uber. Nice, clean, smokefree cars and pleasant drivers. Can you tell I'm a fan?

LOL............nobody forces me to do anything!!!!! Especially get into a car that I'm unsure of.

That's a terrible story. I've taken taxis and ubers, but can't say I'm comfortable taking them. I'd like to think I am always aware of my surroundings and can take care of myself, but that uneasy feeling is there.

A person in a desperate situation, might not feel like that @reiki604 . If I was rushing to the side of a sick ,or injured person, I might be more upset, than careful, and just want to get to them ,asap

I only take Lyft and mostly during the day (but have at night, just not late) and this information is correct. Both Uber and Lyft are huge here and they all have stickers on their cars to identify them. With Lyft, you always get the make/model/license plate number as well as driver name and picture. I always make sure the license plate number matches. I would never get in otherwise.

I understand what you are saying but we all need to be sensible and keep our heads together regardless of the circumstances. You're no help to anyone if you are so distraught you cant think or act straight..
