topic Question on asking for money, if you want to contribute to Trip on Invitation in Community Chat

Just wonder how it would strike you if you read on a 50th wedding anniversary party invitation not to bring any gifts, but if you want to contribute to their trip to Hawaii where they wed 50 years ago, you may do so.

I was going to give a gift, and then I thought, they are very religious people, I would give the gift amount to their church in their name., They would rather have money to help out with trip. They have already paid for their trip, but the person giving the party, who really isn't paying for it,they are, asked for money, but only if you want. I felt like it was a little rude, but I could be very wrong. Either way, I am giving, but just curious if this is proper or rude?
