Anyone Have Liberty Mutual Insurance?

While not actively looking to change insurance companies, I just spoke with a rep from Liberty Mutual regarding car, home, and an umbrella package. It all sounds wonderful, maybe too wonderful, so I am wondering if anyone has had experience with them, good and not so good. TIA

@SXMGirl, we had them for years. The one time we did have to deal with them for a claim, they were wonderful.

They just got too expensive.

@CelticCrafterThank you for the reply. They are sending me info with all of the quotes that I received today. I have been with the same company for over 20 years and thought it was time to at least see what other companies would charge for similar coverage. I am always hesitant to change insurance companies. I always worry that I will have a car accident the week after I switch and then get dropped. I have not had an accident in over 30 years and no tickets ever, but some people drive like maniacs today.

I will say that the quotes were a little too good to be true. I also disliked that I would get a really good discount if I signed up today--I really dislike that.

Anyway, thanks again. I probably will not change companies, but I may make some changes on my policies.

It's a good idea to check out insurance companies every few years. Sometimes, if you stay with an existing company, they just keep raising your rates. Changing to another one is often cheaper.

I had them for years for both homeowner and auto.. They became so expensive that it wasn't worth it. In NC, you had to sign a 'consent to rate' form which means you are giving them consent to charge a higher premium. I was paying over $1300/year for liablity and collision on a BMW with no points.. And this was not a new BMW.. I called a local insurance agent and found the same coverage with another company for less than half Liberty Mutual's price.. I would never use them again. The only claim I ever had with them was for towing and it was handled easy enough... The homeowner insurance at the new company was also about half of what I was paying with Liberty.. And I've got more and better coverage with the new company... I would never use Liberty Mutual again...

Had Liberty Mutual for years, never had an issue. Had claims for broken glass and theft, never had any problems. Solid company.

We were insured with them for over 20 years, for both our house and our cars. Never had any problems with them and luckily never had to file any claims.

We dropped them about 5 years ago because they just got too expensive.

We now have Travelers. We saved over $1200 when we switched!!

I have never had Liberty Mutual but it seems like no matter what insurance we buy, the price starts out low and then keeps climbing every year until I feel like I need to switch again.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am printing out the info for DH, but I also want to go over the numbers with my current agent. He is wonderful and I would like to stay with him, but I am not sure that I am getting the best rates for our coverage. I like that most of you have had a positive experience with Liberty. I did dislike that the agent was really pushing for me to sign today for extra discounts. Either you have discounts or you don't.

I had them for years for car and homeowners. I checked out Allstate for both and am paying way less for the same coverage.

I worked with a guy a couple of years ago when this company first entered our market here. He was buying a house and said their rates were half what other companies wanted so he was thrilled. He said they told him it was a special rate because they were new and wanted to attract new customers. They dramatically raised rates after they brought in a lot of new customers, so he wasn’t happy.

I'm in Tx and our Home Owners went from 1200 to 2300. We shopped it out and couldn't find anything any better, but, now we have had wind damage and the adjustor came out and said they won't pay for a new roof, only repairs and since we have 2700 deductible mean we won't get nothing.

This is ASI Insurance , division of Progressive.. Insurance is a racket.

If I was Oprah or Warren Buffet I wouldn't carry it, period. I had 3 contractors look at the roof and said since it's 10 yrs old it should be replaced , now, that it has wind damage. Shingles are gone in spots.

Adjustor came out and said we could get by with just repairs and that's what he was gonna turn in to the office. So, thanks !

Guess we'll try to shop it out again next yr. I'll try Travelers as suggested.

We were with Lib Mut for many years , when a friend challenged me to just call an insurance broker and just see what was available.

My word, for less than 1/3 of my total insurance cost, I got exactly (checked line by line each policy) the same thing for another co,

It is worth that one call.

The city where I live had a wind storm with straightline winds of 75 mph and there was alot of damage to roofs. Mine was one of them. The adjuster came out and recommended repairing the roof and that is what he turned in to the insurance company, but I have Replacement Cost Coverage and so we fought it and the insurance company finally came through and paid all but my deductible. So check your coverage. If you have Replacement Cost Coverage, you might be able to get the Insurance Company to pay. We did have to constantly contact our provider though and complain alot to get it done. Good luck!!

yeah, we got it too. replacement cost coverage. We usually get taken advantage of just used to it by now.

I've been sitting here waiting for a guy to come out and give me a written estimate on repairs I had talked to him before when he thought he was in the running for a whole roof. Oh yeah I'll be out afternoon to give you an est. for now just the repairs.

I'm still waiting, so , I called one of the other 3 I first called he's suppose to be here Wed afternoon. Running out of roofers here. They will be all covered up now anyway I'm not the only one hurting I'll be at the back of the line I'm sure.

@SXMGirl I don't but I've had Erie Insurance for over 30 years. The company has been wonderful to me over all those years during which, of course, I've had a few claims. Be careful if you do shop ins. companies to compare apples with apples.

For example, the times I've had any car accidents (three minor ones I believe over the 30+ years but my cars did have body damage) I was allowed to take the care for repair to whomever I chose (that is, in my case, the dealer's body shop to make sure the manufacturer's parts were installed as replacements). Sometimes insurance companies make you go to certain places to get the vehicle fixed. Also, I have lifetime accident forgiveness for having been a customer of theirs for over 30 years; that is, my rates don't/won't go up if I'm in a car accident (I was in one in 2016 that was my fault - no rate increase). They give lifetime accident forgiveness if a customer for more than 15 years. I noticed the wording in the Liberty Mutual commercials and you have to pay for accident forgiveness in your policies, it sounds like from the wording of the commercial.

Erie is at the expensive end of insurance but I've found that you get what you pay for. If I am in an accident I want my car fixed by whomever I choose to fix it. I have auto, homeowners, and an umbrella clause with them too. I have looked into other insurance over the years, some of which would have been cheaper, but stayed with Erie.
