I read your post and was curious as to why your physcian said because of your age Keto would not be the diet for you. Could you elaborate. I am 67, started Jenny Craig at the end of November and have lost 31 lbs. It is a slow loss 1-2 lbs a week, and expensive. I did Jenny because I wanted something I didn't have to think about or prepare because that is my downfall, I don't have willpower to measure the right amount etc. Anyway my 2 neighbors are doing KETO and they lost alot of weight FAST. It obviously would cost me alot less not doing Jenny Craig, so I am curious as to why because of your age he said you wouldn't do well, I don't know your age.

Just give it 5-12 months.

All the ‘keto’ fad people will regain all the weight they lost because

it’s totally unsustainable....and will be back to Weight Watchers.

It’s all very cyclical.

I'm a loyal Weight Watcher, it's the only program that has worked for me after a lifetime of yo yo dieting and ridiculous fad diets.

However, I thought the whole renaming to WW / Wellness Wins was ridiculous and a dangerous gamble. And what do we talk about in my meetings anyway? Tracking, weight loss success, stumbling blocks, activity -- nothing has changed. It was a dumb marketing gimmick.

As for Keto - I know a lot of people who are losing tons of weight - some to the point I think they look unhealthy now. Some of them have found it helped their IBS. But, I don't think it's sustainable. I don't think it's healthy either, but that's just my opinion. One girl I know is practically living on seasoned ground meat.

Keto, or whatever it is, has always worked well for me. If you manage it with some sense and get all the nutrition you need it's great. At least for some of us.

I've been advised by my doctor that keto is not for me. I think she mentioned age (???) but I don't mind because I'm not interested in doing...let's call it the formal program. I think cutting out "the white stuff" and eating less meat and more veggies makes more sense.

I "did" low carb long ago and it worked. However, I found that while bread didn't mean much to me before Atkins, after it I really, really, REALLY loved bread!

I think WW is the best plan for life. It's just reasonable eating. You can truly have anything...just be reasonable (and accountable) for it.

WW has changed in my area. I joined in May, 2016 and in six months I lost 24 lbs. I was very happy and the diet was easy to do and I maintained my loss for two years. I am a stress eater and went through last year and gained back some of my weight so I rejoined in October, 2018.

The Point system had changed a bit so not exacxtly what I was used to. WW now relies mostly on their "App" and all the info is on that. I received no new books explaining the new point system and I stayed until the end of the meeting to obtain the new info. I was told by the instructer that everything was on the App. She told me there was classes to learn how to use it but they were all on Saturdays and I work part-time and work most Saturdays. Anyway, I was not successful the second time around because I was very confused. I quit in a couple of months.

If anyone else has had my experience I can understand why their stock is down.

WW may be taking a hit because of the easy-to-use apps out there that are either free or much less expensive and so much more convenient. I had joined My Fitness Pal but stopped using it when the website was hacked twice.

Keto is just another low carb fad diet. Most will likely put the weight back on. I have never known anyone who kept weight off long-term by following a fad diet. Most fit/healthy people I know work out and eat things in moderation.

I guess if you need it to stay on track, then fine, but I would be miserable.

Thank you @esmerelda for your response. No there is no other choice of meetings as far as WW and I do have the tools and try to do it on my own, but there is something about going to the meeting and being held accountable and hearing ideas from other people etc. I am going to try on my own but I think it is not a wise business decision for WW to rely just on the App and not offer options. I am computer literate and understand Apps but the point system had changed and looking everything up on an App and having to keep track on the App just was not my thing.

You are right, I was not impressed with the instructor and she was not very helpful. However, I will find a way to take this weight off. As I tell my granddaughter "there is always a way"! (quote from Dory in Finding Nemo).

Thanks again!

I don't think keto is a fad diet. People use it for reasons other than to lose weight and it's been around for a long time.
