Dillards Closing

Beautiful department store about 40 miles from me will close it's mall anchor store in May. Dillards has been in this mall many years. It was and is a little more upscale than the Macys in that mall. Always had beautiful selection of plus sizes and their lingerie department was fabulous. And when Dillards had sales, they were great. They will keep a clearance store about 60 miles from me. When I worked I spent a great deal of money at Dillards even though the sales tax was high. We pay no clothing sales tax in Pa. Sad to see this store go.

I'll be naked for sure. Only decent store in Amarillo. Rest are cheapie stores and look it.

I like Dillard's. Hope this isn't more than one store, but sorry you are losing your shopping venue.

We have two Dillard's stores here in malls and one of the stores is a Clearance Center which isn't open a lot of the time. Probably won't be long for both to close.

I'm sorry about that. Were you shopping in Ohio (sales tax on clothing) but living in PA ( no sales tax)?

Dillards long ago closed their store closest to me and I went to the next closest only when I wanted to check out the Nordstrom in that mall, but Nordstrom has announced the closing of their store, so I'm unlikely to shop that mall for anything.

I used to shop Dillards all the time, but they also had a lot of sales back then. They quit having the sales and I migrated over to Belk which took over the Parisian store. We still have one Dillards, but I never shop there. They never seem to have sales, and the selection is not that great either. I found out one year after shopping the week between Christmas and New Years when EVERYBODY seems to have sales, they did not. But, I walked into the store on New Years day to pay my bill and that was the day they had their sale. We had one of those clearance stores for awhile, but it closed and now that mall no longer exists anyways.

I still shop Belk, mostly for the prices, but their clothing is just blah. They pick out one style and just carry it in lots of different fabrics....for years. I still see a shirt style I bought several years ago in the store. Apparenty, they think Modern Southern Style is cookie cutter.

I wish I could find somewhere local to shop that actually had fashion apparel because I have to try clothing on and, as much as I hate doing it in a store, I hate having to send something back even worse. At least in a store I can grab different sizes to try on.

If you go to the Dillards' website, the states which have stores are in blue; PA shows no stores in the entire state. That said, NO states above VA have Dillards as per this map though the majority of the country is shown to have a Dillards in their state.

The only thing I know about Dillards comes from some retail friends who moved here from the South and worked for Dillards; now they are at Macy's or Nordstroms. NONE of them liked working for the company; horrible management, policy's, benefits, etc. They love working for Nordstrom and Macy's, however.

Sorry to see this. Seems like the mall stores are really having a difficult time.

Worked at Dillard's when in between jobs.....loved it. They do have excellent merchandise. And when they have a sale they don't bring in junk to sell. The markdowns are done by the sales folks and each department is kept up by the employees when working. They do give employees a generous discount. It's hard work because of having to be on your feet for a long period of time. Especially difficult when you work till closing and then have to be there the next morning at opening.

They closed this store because the whole mall was being sold and were going to tear down the mall and build new there. Apartments, condos, small shops, entertainment. But nothing has been built yet. Still clearing off the land. The closing was a long time ago and it you want to go to a Dillard's you have to go quite a distance to get to one.

@ValuSkr We live in rural western Pa. Our local Dollar General is considered a mall. Our closest Pa mall is an hour away, solid bumper to bumper traffic and is very upscale. They have a Tesla dealership in the mall. We do most of our buying in Ohio especially gasolene which generally runs 35-40c a gallon cheaper . Since I do 90% of my clothing shopping from a catalogue, the closing wil not be a tremendous impact on me. But that mall has already lost several large stores , I hate to see more people lose jobs. A huge car manaufacturing facility near the mall is also closing soon, so the area is going to have a big financial set-back.

I loved shopping Dillard's when I lived in NV. Loved their Investments and Westbound brands. No Dillards's here in Chicago. Hope this is not a national thing and that the website will still be working.

Dillards is like WalMart another of those Arkansas outfits that people complain about if they work there.

The ones near us have a horrible selection of ruffled, loud print clothing that is awful and the stores are sort of junkie too. I haven't shopped there much in years. They used to be so nice.

Our local mall has lost Foley's, Macy's, Sears, Montgomery Ward and Mervyn's.

JCPenney is teetering. And now Dillard's?

I worked for Dillards for many years, many years ago. What mall are you talking about, @bootsanne ??? I live in the Tulsa area and although two stores closed years ago (as did the entire mall they were each in), the remaining stores are doing well here.

The only time I was ever in a Dillards was when I visited my mother in south Florida. It was a very nice store but has long been closed.

I'm in PA (southeastern) and I wished there was a Dillards in my area. We also don't pay sales tax on clothing.

We don't have State income tax, they just make it up on another tax.

We have yearly vehicle inspection sticker you have to have on your car if

you get pulled over.

Property tax is pretty steep they do freeze 'em though once you hit 65

This is Amarillo, Tx area.

Nobody has got it over the other when it comes to taxes. ROFL

I've always enjoyed Dillard's. They have had a strong presence in S..E. Louisiana for some time, and IMHO their merchandise has been appealing and of excellent quality. Great sales as well.

But here we are on an internet shopping channel and we are all buying from internet sales sites. How can Dillard's or any other company survive this choice on our parts? I have trouble getting to Dillard's now since my stroke and lack of driving abililty, but I do always check their internet site before I buy elsewhere. I would be very sad if they closed up entirely. I also shop at Belk since they are very close to my home, and offer merchandise that fits into my current lifestyle.

Perhaps we all need to rethink our buying habits to include our local stores as often as possible. Remember, you can try things on with no concern about return shipping costs, and check out fabrics and quality in the local store without limits.

Our local Dillard's announced it was closing in May too. That was probably back in September when they announced. It is pretty ghost-like in the store now. I think they are using the store for things that aren't selling in other stores like things they are trying to get rid of at a reduced price.

Dillard's is closing in May....Sears closed last year....Rumor has it that Macy's is next at our Mall
