Okay, now this may seem odd to you, why wouldn't siblings who grew up together not share the same memories or see things the same, they don't always. I am the youngest girl of three kids, my brother was 61/2 years older ( he is deceased), my sister is 4 years older. My brother and I remembered everything growing up, saw it the same way. My sister doesn't remember things that happened, I honestly think she blocked out a lot of her childhood. I know this guy he is the middle child, he has a sister 2 years older, and a sister 5 years younger. His father was very hard on him and abusive. The father was somewhat abusive to the older sister, though not as abusive as he was to my friend. The younger sister doesn't recall any of the abuse it never touched her. Could siblings really be raised together in the same household and have different memories?

I have no siblings, and with both of my parents gone, l wish l had sisters and brothers with whom to share childhood memories of my parents. I value my childhood friends whom l'm still close with, to share memories of my days as a kid growing up.

I think it is very likely especially with age differences and different personalities especially amongst siblings and family members. The same thing can happen between child and parent with different impressions of certain events.

I remember going to an event with my parents and having a grand time with a few other children that seemed to go on forever that evening. My parents recalled that the event as was a a pretty lousy business holiday party, few party goers showed up and they left just under 30 minutes.

Odd when it happens, right?

Yes, my sibs and I share memories of growing up. And we all agree - the vast majority were not good; so we choose to not go there on the rare occasions we're all together. Amazingly, against all odds, we all managed to go out into the world and do okay.

The old saying, " you never know what goes on behind closed doors" is 100% true.

Interesting...I am the middle child. I have a brother who is 3 years older and a sister who is 3 years younger. My brother and I seem to have more common interests and make the effort to see each other as often as possible even though we live on different sides of the state. We like to share memories from our childhood and have taken frequent trips back to the town we grew up in..It feels good to re-live places where we played, see the schools we attended, and walk through the town. We appreciate the “simpler times” and always have fun together no matter what we are doing are where we are going...We are both grandparents now and share many current life experiences. Lots of laughs...

My sister, on the other hand, moved away a few years ago and rarely sees the family. She apparently didn’t value the same memories or experiences that my brother and I have.....or care to maintain family ties. As unfortunate as that is, I have finally learned to accept that people...including family....make choices in life and have to live with them. I’m happy where I am.

Some people are very good at forgetting things that weren't pleasant or that they don't care about. Or they tend to be more forward looking and most of their past is all but forgotten. I experience it all the time with my siblings. It reminds me that we all have different perspectives and what was innocuous to me may have been not-so-nice for others.

My parents had 7 kids in a 16 yr span. Therefore, yes, the older ones have some different memories from the youngest ones.

We share memories, mostly laughing at each other and ourselves. We sure did some goofy stuff growing up! Being 1 of only 2 girls, and being the quieter one, some sibs tell me I was babied. Nah! 😂😂😂😂

The younger ones had more relaxed rules, especially curfews. Mom and Dad were in their 50s by the time my youngest brother went off to college.

My dad was an avid film and photo buff. My brother follows in his footsteps. We've been watching old 8mm films (with his projector and screen) and just marveling how lucky we are to have these precious memories! My parents, so in love, my mom so young and beautiful with us little kids running around. Oh so sweet. We watched my wedding (1978) that my Uncle took and I actually got very teary. All my relatives are all gone now, but they looked so great in the film. My brother and I have been reliving memories and laughing. So great!

For sure, different memories. It depends on the experiences you had, or how things were perceived by each child at any given time. They say, parents get easier as time goes on with the kids. Seems right to me.

My sister is 3 yrs younger and her memories are very different than mine. (i do have very clear recall of my childhood)

We were talking about how our Mom doesnt communicate well and and I said well she expected us to be mind readers. Then it kind of dawned on my sister that yes, Mom is like that.

I said a good example was she would always pout and make faces at my father and he would try so hard to make her happy and try to discern what made her blue. Flowers, candy, jewelry. My Dad made 8mm home movies and it's so obvious she did this quite often. I could see it..i guess it was her "silent treatment" As we grew into teens our Dad quit catering to Mom and their relationship suffered big time.

Absolutely, we three each have some different memories. Most related to our loving maternal grandmother, uncles and aunt we pretty much remember the same.

Regarding our parents and as someone said, treatments, we each are not always on the same page.

Our older brother being a boy was treated differently from his two younger sisters and not always gently. My older sister being the middle child was somewhat the peacemaker and she and our brother would always try to bug out to go on walk-about or climb a tree and stay there for a while.

Being younger I was home most of the time so my memories and theirs can differ a lot of times.

My sister will swear her memories are the most correct. My brother and I just let it go.

I think to some people memories have different levels of importance or they choose to block them out for various reasons.

A few times my sister would say to me, remember when such and such or so and so and no I didn't.

There were lots we shared and I guess there were few I felt weren't important to me.
