Learning a New Language in 2019?

In case that is anyone's resolution, I thought you might like to know the top ten most spoken languages in the world.

If you already know another language, where does yours rank on the list?

Darn, French, Spanish and English are largely based on Latin. What's with that? English, Espanol, Francais: Francais, a very beautiful language, a very unsettled country right now.

Interesting info, thanks. When I was in high school, we had a choice between French or Spanish. I chose French but wish I’d chosen Spanish. It would have been much more useful but at the time Spanish wasn’t as prevalent as it is now. I took a Korean Language course a few years ago. That didn’t go well but I still remember one of the greetings - - Ahn Young Ha Saeyo.

I studied Latin. It did help with the botanical names of plants, as I am a horticulturist.

I'm teaching my German Shepherd commands in Spanish. I figure he's smart enough to be bi-lingual (I don't speak it, but DH is fairly fluent and I do know some basic Spanish words).

I took .French in high school and Spanish in college, sadly I only remember enough for crosswords and the occasional phrase in a book. I'm not proud of this.

I don't see Italian curse words which were some of my first words at birth thanks to my grandparents.

I took years of French and Spanish and medaled in both. Along with English, they were my best classes.

The only new language I would attempt is Sign Language.
I'd have more opportunity to use it.

In school I was forced to take Spanish in elementary school and forced to take a French in junior High School. I hated it! I was bad at it and had no desire to learn another language.Today, I still feel the same way. I speak English. Good enough for me.

I can speak a little spanish to get me around, and enough french to read instructions, lol. But I would like to learn Japanese

Considering China's population, the top of the list doesn't surprise me. I never had the opportunity to learn it early on.

English of course. My second language isn't on the list but I can understand some Russian because of it. I woudn't starve of be able to find a bathroom in Spanish but my conversation would be laughable.

It's a shame that second and third languages are not taught in most grade schools in this country. Young minds are fertile.

Took Spanish in college. Can't speak a word of it. I would like to take on another language, but no plans to do so at this time.

I studied French in H.S. and college (definitely not my best subject) and I lived in Germany for eight years and can speak some. Surprisingly, my un peu francaise has been surprisingly helpful over the years. As stated before, it's a romance language and has some of same or similar root words as Spanish and Italian so sometimes I can read parts of signs of instructions and logic out what it is. I have travelled widely so every little bit of communication helps.
