Not even if they dropped me in by helicopter

Would I do New Year’s Eve in New York City, standing there for hours to watch a ball drop.

My claustrophobia and fight or flight instincts kick in just looking at the sea of humanity all crushed together. No way to get out.

I’ll sit here in my recliner wearing my “go no further than the mailbox in them” leggings and bunny slippers. With plenty of space around me.

@gidgetgh, I will be joining you. No way would I stand there all day with those crowds. I prefer to be in my own home, can watch it on tv if I am still awake, and have food and a clean bathroom. My needs are few.

and once you get in there, if you do have to leave to go to the bathroom, that's it - you're not getting back in.

Not my idea of fun, it never was something I ever wanted to see in person.

I won't watch it on TV. As my daughter and I said, if you've seen one ball drop you've seen them all.

I’ve lived in downstate New York my entire life & never had a desire to attend the ball drop.Way to crowded & cold.Not to mention you have to arrive hours early to get a good spot.When nature calls you’re in trouble. If you leave to find a bathroom the police will not let you back in to the area. Since 9/11 the security is through the roof. JMO but just not worth the hassle!!

Back in the late 70's before the world went crazy my 20 something brother and his friends went to a NY Ranger game and walked up to Times Square for the ball drop, he said it was cold and great and then he and his friend came back to my parents to bagels and lox.

Born and raised and still live in NYC but I've never and neither have my family or friends ever wanted to go there even when we were teenagers when we were ready, able and capable of doing the craziest things that we laugh about even today. We'll be nice and cozy indoors on our comfortable couch with eggnog when the ball drops.

That event has taken a life of it's own over the years. Folks from far and near stand there for hours, that alone is hard to imagine let alone in bad weather and then when the crowd starts coming forget about it.

Did it once many many years ago when we were young. That was enough. Went to rooftop parties and parties in offices that faced Time Square multiple times, but now are just going to relax at home with loved ones.

Crowds don’t bother me but I can’t think of anything more boring to do! The whole NYE excitement is just silly and a complete waste, IMO. It is just another day.

@gidgetgh It’s not for me either. But I imagine it’s some kind of bucket list or “I was there” kind of thing for some people.

I don’t know who puts up the money for what seems to be a brand new ball every year, but if I was a New Yorker and IF tax money was involved… I would be pretty ticked off.

Hoping for a dry, not too cold, safe time for all who do attend.

In the early 70s when I was in college, a group of us went. We had fun. But I think we could have gone anywhere and had fun. It was crowded and once we got there, we positioned ourselves so we could see the ball drop. But we stayed toward the fringe of the crowd. And left shortly after the ball dropped. It was fun to be part of the crowd and glad I did it once "in my youth".

Wouldn't think about doing it now.

And we were all young - so our bladders were young and strong also. Was not a concern at the time.

I've been to NYC a couple times in New years, but never made it to see the ball. I'm over it now, but would have liked to have gone. It's not the same now with the newer ball.

I wouldn’t even consider being in the NY crowd.

We have a local ball drop; smaller crowd, hometown feel, and I still don’t go.

I did go one year with my husband, maybe 40 years ago. We arrived late and were some blocks away from the main action so we could make a quick getaway. It was exciting and fun but once was enough. I remember being very, very cold.
