Remember the Overland-Park-little-boy-hugging-the-statue uproar?

The ‘museum quality’ piece which was oddly not insured by the artist?

Overland Park followed up by reported in July the mother’s insurance

was paying. Many news outlets picked up on that story.

Oddly tho, a short time later in August, the Kansas City Star

did an additional update reporting that, no...the Overland Park

spokesman admits they were wrong.

The City’s insurance paid for it (article below).

So Overland Park spokesman had no idea the insurance came out

of their camp? Hummmm.

And with ‘insurance math’ the extra $8000...’the city kept it’.

Is that how insurance works? You get to pocket the remaining?

Seems hummmmm-x2.

I’m really surprised she hasn’t filed a lawsuit w/ the City, especially

they way they continued to drag her character through the mud.

Twice. I read this story w/ ‘raised eyebrow’ from the get-go....

and the followup is just as weird.

The spokesmen simply made a mistake where the payout came from & admitted it. Why shouldn't the city they keep the $8,000... they are out the 25% if the sculpture had been sold. The boys parents should pay the rest, their child toppled & destroyed it.

Seems like a fair and equatable payout to both the artist and the Museum. The piece should have been insured by the artist. He didn't even have it appraised! No one knows what it was really worth.

Imagine the City will take precautions in the future will all pieces on loan or for sale. Some lessons are more expensive to learn than others.

Delighted the Goodman family is not being held liable when so many other things were not addressed prior to the piece being placed for public exhibit.

I do not agree that the Goodman family is not responsible. They are responsible for their child, and the actions of their child. I reviewed the video footage again, and that child was away from his parents for quite a while (along with another boy). Anything could have happened during that time. He easily could have been kidnapped or wandered into the parking lot and been run over. Having children is a huge responsibility, and if you don't want to put in the time and effort necessary, think twice about having them. The mother was interviewed, and has blamed everyone but herself. Watch your children, and teach them not to touch things that don't belong to them. We had untouchables on a shelf in my home growing up. No big deal. I also knew not to touch anything without permission. We taught our kids the same thing. It is not so difficult.

The mother is still clueless. According to her logic, since it was not a museum, the parents should not have been expected to tell their kids not to touch anything. How's that now????

She's lucky she hasn't been tagged for one dime for what her son did.

It sounds like a fair deal to me. The artist got his full expected payment had the statue sold and the city got their 25% commission had the statue been sold.

The parents are off of the hook and they are not getting billed.

I hope their little one learned a life lesson and will not be touching things that aren't his in public places and that his parents will keep a better eye on their children in the future.

Lets be honest here, that ugly piece probably would not have sold for the price the artist had it listed for. Everyone made out here.
