All I Can Say Right Now Is OUCH.....

It has been ages since I've put any of my pierced earrings on..... Reason being was because of the radiation treatments, PET scans, etc. So, just haven't bothered with them.....until a while ago. Decided to see if I could get them through the holes..... I did, but boy did it hurt on the one ear....the other was ok. But now I will try to wear a different pair every day for a few days. Do have some very pretty ones, and have missed wearing them.

Ouch, indeed! I would make sure to put some in that are posts so that they don't heal up too small, as could happen with wires.

Also, isopropyl alcohol and you probably already know that, too.

@ShowMe, You might find that a wire or the ones without posts are more comfortable. I rarely wear any with posts for just that same reason.

I can sure sympathize....I feel guilty for not wearing them , especially The beautiful ones with heavy turquoise that DH bought me years ago. Painful to go through 😫

Mine all have posts.....except one pair that I got that are Eterna Gold that have the kind where you put it through the hole and then it clamps on..... Oh you know what I'm talking about.

Yes, I know about the alcohol too.

This is not the first time I've had to go through this, but it sure does hurt...... Right now they are feeling fine. Will take them out tonight when I go to bed, but will put them back in right away in the morning.

@chickenbutt......I don't wear any wires. Was always afraid of losing one and not being able to replace it. And I always wear gold posts.....not silver.....

@Azcowgirl.....what a shame you can't wear them. Could you have them remounted to something that will be easier to put on?????

I also stopped wearing my pierced earrings. I was lazy and also I seemed to lose earrings easily. I think because of being on the phone at work. I was sad that I lost so many nice earrings and just stopped wearing them.

Well, my cousin was getting married. So we were driving 1,200 miles to attend the wedding. I spent the entire time we were driving through Ohio and much of Michigan, trying to get one earring in. I got the first one in easily but the second one took forever.

But I finally got the second earring in. My ear was quite swollen but at least I got both earrings in. Never want to go through that again so I wear studs all the time now.

@drizzellla......our experience sounds the same trying to get the one post through. I could get mine to where it was supposed to go through, but it stopped there....I really didn't try to force it, but did finally get it through. And fortunately it didn't swell on me. It is feeling fine now. I do have one pair of gold posts, but just don't wear them too often.....not near as pretty as some others that I have. Do own a few Diamonique pairs.....and really like them. They have gold posts.

Only gold here, too. I have some that are wires, like hoops and such, but one 'wire' type I won't use is the 'shepherd hook' type where it's not secured in the back. I don't care for the look (plus I have long hair) and I would worry about the security.

What I've done when I had that happen is to not only put in a pair of posts, with some iso alcohol, but every now and then I just spin the earrings once or twice (does that make sense?). It's, as much as anything, to keep the hole from healing onto the post.

I don't wear earrings as much anymore, since I'm at home 99% of the time now, but every now and then it seems like one will get weird. Man, it makes me cringe thinking of how I have to just shove it through.

Count me among those who use isopropyl alcohol to control possible or current infection in pierced ears. It might not be the best idea, but I also pour a little of the alcohol over the posts before putting on the earrings in addition to rubbing over the ear holes with an alcohol-soaked cotton ball.

Good luck, ShowMe. I've sometimes gone without my earrings for a few days and have a difficult time reinserting them.

I can wear only gold posts, too.

That's what I do, also. A Q-Tip works well, too.

@ShowMe Interesting because my middle daughter had her ears pierced when she was a kid.

She never wears earrings, but every now and then (when she married, etc) and wears them, the holes never healed over and they went right in.

Incidentally, I have to say, I hope all is well with you now. Couldn't help but notice all you've been through.

I so admire women like you who've been through so much in life and mange to get through it.

@Annabellethecat66......thank you for your sweet words and encouragement. Yes, it has been tough......and I'm still fighting it. No, all is not well with me now, but take it a day at a time. Won't let it win.

Here's hoping you can continue to not let your back make you give in. There is nothing worse than pain. I do still have it from my fall, but arthur is the blame for that now.

Will add you to my daily prayer list. Prayers do so much good.....more than we realize. Keep your chin up....

I don't know how long it's been for you but I didn't wear studs in my top holes for well over a year and when I tried to put them in; one hurt like heck but I got it in. The other whole seems to have closed up. I couldn't get the stud in.

@ShowMe I do believe in the power of prayer. I have taped up in my kitchen a saying...."If you ask GOD for help, you might not get what you want but you will get what you need.

I've encountered that on more than one occasion. I don't think we are always aware of what we need when we talk to GOD, be he in his wisdom knows that we need.

@Annabellethecat66......OMGosh.....I have that same thing on a 3 x 5 card on a plastic sleeve on my fridge. Have had it for a long long time. It is so true.....HE knows what we need, we do need to listen for His response.

@chrystaltree.......it's been more than 6 months since I last wore any earrings. I was so afraid I would have a real problem. But took my time getting them.....and so far everything is still good. Have been twisting them every once in a while just to keep them moving....

Will see what tomorrow morning brings when I try to get them in again. Just can't sleep with any earrings in my ears. Those posts seem to bother me too much, and I have enough to contend with when trying to sleep...

Wow! I have the same problem. My ears have been pierced forever. But if I go too long, my left one gives me fits to get earring in. The right never gives me any problem.

I tend to wear hoops, just because they are easier to sleep in for me.

I can only wear at least 14kt gold, or else I have problems too.
