DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE AT LOWES TODAY

DH and I ran into Lowes after church today to pick up a few things. I always have to look around at everything. Well, today I was looking up and stepped right in a pile of dog poo!!! My husband was walking in front of me and was turning to say "Look out for the.........oh man, you stepped right in it". I certainly did!! As I hopped to the restroom to do a scrape and wash job, DH brought it to the attention of an employee. The paper towels they have in public restrooms are the pits. They are so thin and basically useless. I did the best I could with what was there. I was wearing wedge sandals and thankfully nothing got on my foot. Anyway, when I came out of restroom, they had only rolled a cart over the mess. There were tracks for at least 15 feet.

If a person is bringing a dog into a public business, it is their job to look after any and all messes it makes. I didn't see the guilty culprit and it is probably a good thing.

I was not happy.

What an awful experience. I always look at the floors when I'm at Petsmart but not Lowes. I notice more people bringing their dogs to all kinds of stores, even the library sometimes.

Ahhh yes the emotional support dog industry and the wonderful people who pick up after their animals. Somebody will slip and fall on dog doo, sue them and then only legitimate service animals will be let in. This is what happened to the airline industry.

DH mentioned that he saw several dogs in there today while I never saw any. I guess I was looking up, LOL.

Yes, @Deanie, I am surprised I didn't slip and slide through it.

I don't want to be gross here, but this dog was either nervous or sick, if you know what I mean. I wouldn't want my dog to come in contact with something like that. That is how viruses and more are spread.

I am too and I absolutely agree... And hooey on this 'emotional support' nonsense. When I rule the world only bona fide service animals will be allowed in stores, even pet stores. Unless you're taking your dog for grooming or to the in-store vet, there is no reason for Fido to tag along.

I love to shop with my dog and I'll often take him to Lowe's, Home Depot and (his favorite and mine) Total Wine.

He's a fine canine citizen and has never misbehaved.

I love dogs more than anything and it really p____s me off that so many of them have irresponsible owners. I can't take my dog to Tent Rocks National Monument because dogs have been banned and I fear that if people don't start picking up their dogs' waste I won't be able to take him to the Petroglyphs, either.

REI has already stopped allowing dogs in their store. The apartment complex a few blocks away might change their policy, too. Good grief, they supply bags and people still can't bend/stoop to pick up the mess.

It makes it bad for responsible dog owners who really appreciate being able to take their dogs out in public.

I'm sorry this happened to you @tends2dogs.

I had been noticing more and more dogs in my local supermarket (not service dogs). Some are in the cart seat; others not.

Just a couple weeks ago, I saw a woman with a German shephard on a leash -- no identity labeling the dog as a service dog.

Yesterday, I saw that they had put up a large sign on the entrance door that made it clear that only certified service dog are allowed. Finally.

People drag them to the summer time Community markets, also. Street vendors having a weekend. You got strollers, wheelchairs, and now you have to navigate around dogs on leashes and owners not paying attention.

I've had a snout sniffing a few times.

That's bad. If course they put a cart over it, they don't want to clean it up either. I'm a pet lover, but not in favor of pets shopping.

@tends2dogs Super gross! We complained at our Home Depot, the employee's said it's awful. They have to pick up others people's dogs "mess" now. Not part of there job, but now sadly is...

A friend of mine got bit by a customers dog at Lowes last week. She works there and all she was doing was bagging up the customers things. The dog jumped up and bit her on the hand and it is very severe. She was not touching or trying to touch the dog in any way. Now the dog is going to be put down because it is not the first time it has bitten someone. My friend not only has to deal with the bite but feels really bad that the dog is going to be put down. People need to not bring their dogs into stores. Their pet might be really good but who knows when they will not be. And yes it is up to the owners to be responsible and really should clean up the messes their dogs leave behind.

I love animals as much as the next person ... BUT I'm totally disgusted with the "sham" of these people who claim their dogs/cats/birds (yes bird in Publix in cage) are 'emotional" support -- please...its not only annoying but disturbing that the management of stores cannot "ask for identification" and the worse is your experience @tends2dogs is just negligence on the part of the owner!!!

There was a lady in our WM at the deli counter in a motorized cart with her dog on a LEASH -- it was a great dane (like a Maramaduke) he was "sniffing all the breads, licked the case, and she asked for "samples" for him to taste ... sorry, that's when I just LOST IT!!! Yes, I was NOT nice nor did I care to be -- she looked at me like it was NORMAL for a dog to lick a case, sniff all the bread, etc located on the racks in front of deli case and get samples of different lunch meats.

And WORSE yet, not one PERSON standing in this deli line said a PEEP...c'mon people ... common sense at some point needs to take over!!! I can only imagine what the dog does at home!!!

Wow, @homedecor1 that is really disgusting. I can't believe the health inspectors can look the other way pertaining to things like that.....licking the display case. I guess that the stores will have to put their goods above dog head's level.....which for the great dane be unreachable for those in a scooter. I really never thought about the bags that bread comes in as being licked by animals. Something else to think about. Asking for deli samples for her dog is over the top. I wouldn't last two minutes in that type of situation.

Everyone is entitled today. No wonder prices are skyrocketing.

Speaking of dogs sniffing food......OK, so dont get grossed out, however, I was in the Giant and there was a man shopping and picked up some of the fried chicken they sell there in plastic containers. Usually it is a fairly large container with a number of pieces. He opened the lid and touched each and every piece of chicken. I watched him go back to the area where it is sold and I left my spot before I could see whether of not he put it back on the warming shelf. Who would have thought that a sealed container would not be a deterrent?

I love dogs.

I love their"doginess". I love that an animal can be of such comfort and delight to a human being. I love their spirit.

I do NOT think they are a human child.

I would never expect them to behave in a way that is foreign to them just so I can drag them around everywhere with me.

I respect their animal spirit and understand the limitations that come with their species.

I am not talking about true, trained service dogs here. Im talking about family pets who are expected to behave like a human.

It's bad enough when you step into poop on the street--lazy dog owners--but in a store!!??! I would talk to the manager about seriously banning animals from the store. I don't believe all this "service animal" nonsense either. Plus I feel sorry for the poor animals who are forced to accompany their owners everywhere. I see dogs in airports, on planes, in restaurants. Good grief!

I agree one hundred percent, @Ms tyrion2. I think it is cruel to see pets dragged along with the owner, because they think they want to go. I have seen dogs (and babies in strollers) at flea markets when it is over 80 degrees and no shade.

The poster that said their friend's dog bit the cashier at Lowes is a sad case. Something obviously triggered this behavior and now the dog has to be put down. If it was left home there would have been no incident. The dog had bit before.........why was she taking it out in a public place with so many people? People just don't use common sense.
