I might have the beginning of one. But I use yoga toes...when I remember and the problem eases. I think certain muscles get tight and draw the toe up. If it gets to far I think surgery is the only answer. I am not sure, but don't they cut the muscles, or lengthen it when they do surgery. I could be totally wrong.

i do know I have a bunion making its appearance for the last 6 years. It is small. I have RA and my toes have lost a lot of cartilage in the joint so they slant a bit. I swear by yoga toes. You can get them on amazon. Get the authentic, not the dupes. They are the best. My husband was getting hammer toes and he swears by them...when he remembers. I love yoga toes for the stretching, it just helps with my foot pain. When i first got them years ago I could only use them for a couple minutes at a time. Now I leave them on for an hour. Like I said..they really work if you use them religiously.

will they get rid of hammer toes, bunions? No. But they can avert damage in early use, and the ease pain and stretch the muscles avoiding many issues"

I know you want to avoid surgery but in 2000 my little toes were hammered toes and the pain was horrible when I walked. I tried everything, pads on my toes. Nothing really worked. I ended up having surgery on both feet in the same session in the podiatrist office. She told me if I had waited, it would have been much worse. Afterwards I did have pain and had to wear surgical shoes for about a month before I could graduate to tennis shoes. I have never had another problem.

I know you want to avoid surgery but I suffered for years with 4 of them. One toe was so twisted in the end that surgery was my only option. I never regretted it, it wasn't painful but the one regret I did have was that I talked my doctor into doing two toes on each foot at the same time. That was a little tough with the pins in my toes. I did go to an orthopedic specialist in foot and ankle surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. It was outpatient and the result was beautiful aesthetically and function wise and no problem since. He did tendon transfers.

I use the band over the toe that is sewn onto a a sturdy material piece that fits on bottom of foot. It got to the point for me, that I had to have the large toenail removed. Early on too.
