Panic is building at Costco

Had 2 things to get at Costco this morning. Expected the store to be crowded and it was.

There were 4 check out lines open. And the lines of course to check out were long and down the isles. So we were in one line down the isle, so people could work there way around us. Every one was patiently waiting in line. Except the lady in front of me. She was in a panic. That there was one line down the isle but two check outs.

What people were doing was moving to the other check out when they got out of the isle and there was room to move. It was working well. Well, not for panic lady. She did not want to wait so everyone let her barge ahead to the second check out line.

What panic lady failed to notice was that second check out line, everyone's carts were filled with items. And most of the carts ahead of her in line had 3-4 items. As I finished paying and walking away from the check out line, I could hear her complaining. She was still 3 people back in the line that she had to push everyone else aside to get into.

Hope she has a better holiday, than she was having today.

Everyone needs to learn patience this time of year. I hope that lady isn't shopping anywhere on friday. LOL

I wish more Costco locations had a Self Scan. Our local Sams changed almost all lanes to self scan. I can use that wand and breeze through the checkout process.

DD just texted to let me know that she is appalled at the amount of time it is taking today to pick up their reserved turkey.

At our Costco I do not think I have ever seen more than 4 lanes open. Two lanes on one end and two lanes on the other end. With plenty of unused lanes in the middle.

that's why we go with frozen, fresh is great but frozen is at home the week before

Maybe shortly before they close. I went right at 10AM and the lines to check out were long already.

@LTT1Thanks. I think I'll try later this afternoon. The pie will be okay in my refrig and I need only one other item. I'll try for the self scan - my Costco has at least 4 of those open as well as at least 4 cashiers on any Tuesday. Hoping I can find a parking space!

That appears to always be an area of congestion at my Costco.

My Costco has no self-checkout lines, but they usually have almost all check-outs going. It's in an affluent area and I give them praise for their efficiency during crazy, busy times. On the other hand, our Sam's is just the opposite.

I have to go to Costco tomorrow.

I need a new phone and the one I want is offering a $300 gift card as an incentive. I won't have a chance to go this weekend. Too good to pass up.

I know it will be crowded. I am getting on the road early to get there at opening. I am taking a whole lot of patience with me.

On the positive side, Costco stores in my area now how have some self check registers. I need wine and a pie too, so I hope the self check will help.

Our Sam's keeps adding more self check outs. I think there is about 8 now in the closest Sam's to us. And they also have at least 5 people doing the regular check out. Plus there is plenty of room near the check outs. You don't have people parked in isles to check out.

That is one of the reason's I prefer going to Sam's. It seems like you can always just walk up and check out with no wait. Well, maybe not today.

It's not just at Costco. I had my sister crying because I was causing a scene at every check out line I stood in yesterday. By the time we got to At Home, I wanted to call a meeting in the checkout line and show everyone how it's done again.

Rule #1: If you are not done shopping, get out of the check out line! It's a check out not a concierge service

Rule #2: If you want your five bucks back on a price adjustment/match/just because/etc, go to customer service and wait in that line. Check out lines are for check out.

Rule #3: Put down your items, swipe your card or hand over your cash, and move out of the way so the next person can come on down. Out! Check OUT!

The kicker was the finale in Hobby Lobby last night. An older employee opened more registers because of the long lines and a young employee came over and began telling people who were moving over that they had to go to the back of the original line they just got out of.

She wanted to take people one by one from the original line even though that line didn't lead to the second register. Luckily the older employee won that argument and they got people out faster because, um, you open a line, people move over themselves and most of us know who was in front first and don't need a youngster to model our kindergarten line up skills.

I think the employees are the ones panicking over this weekend coupled with customers not having our common courtesy manners with us any longer.

With all there is to be upset about in the world right now, a check out line would be at the bottom of my list.

ETA, But, then, I am a chatter and always just talk to people in line while I am waiting.

Costco does typically have long lines but I have noticed the employees really work hard to keep things moving.

As far as Sam's goes, I am spoiled by Scan & Go. I never have to go through the checkout. I just scan my items on my phone and hit checkout when I'm done - it charges my card on file. So easy!

I read that Costco is working on self check out/ scanning guns to get the consumers in & out faster. So far my Costco doesn't have it. They do deliver in my area, same day, I haven't tried it but have ordered on line (no food). On line have more of a selection. Yes, this is the time of year where people go crazy. While I am waiting in line I look in their carts and saw things that I never saw in the store.

i mentioned to DD that Amazon had an ad that it delivers turkey at $1.78 per lb.
