Question About Potatoes

I bought organic red potatoes and when I peeled them this morning they had a green hue. I asked Alexa and was told they were "bad". Nothing about what made them bad nor how bad. Well, I had fried them with bacon and they didn't taste bad, far from it.

What I want to know is, should I expect to become ill and , if so, how ill.

I asked specifically (on line) regarding organic red potatoes and this is what Ifound:

Potatoes start turning green when they are exposed to light. The green itself isn't a problem — it's chlorophyll. But the same conditions that cause the potato to produce chlorophyll also cause it to produce solanine, a natural toxin that causes nausea and other intestinal upsets. Mar 19, 2014

@occasionalrainIt's usually just a surface thing. I'll peel it off and use the potato. I've never gotten sick from it.

My morning continued to go South. After the potatoes, I cut up a pinapple, inside it had an odd pattern of tan dots, never saw anything like that before. I didn't bother Alexia about it, I just threw it out. I also cut my finger. All before noon.

We grow our own potatoes, and I'll admit to getting lazy and not keeping them covered with enough soil as the summer progresses. The exposure to the sun will cause them to turn green, and yes you are not supposed to eat that.

Simply peel the potato down to where the green is gone and you will be fine.

I've done it for decades, and we are all still walking and talking! LOL

I remembered my mother saying something about not eating green potatoes. I thought it might be some wives tale or maybe to do with religion.

No matter what kind of potato I peel, always place it immediately in cold water. Rinse well before putting in pot to cook, grill, or fry.

I don't think you will have any problems.

I really like the organic potatoes plus they seem to last a lot longer.
