I never had the experience of difficult breathing when we lost power til last year and we were without power (happens very frequently in the DC area for sometimes no apparent reason) for over a day and told my husband if it didn't come on soon, we would have to go to a motel so I could get some circulation of air flow. I didn't want to do this but I sure don't want to pay the awful prices hotels/motels charge so hopefully IF I need it, I will have it!! It requires 8 D batteries and is supposed to work for 72 hours before they give out. Needless to say, I am a person who PLANS AHEAD and because we have had such a miserably cold winter I have a bad feeling it will be awful this summer and with the humidity that is always in our area in the summer, I just went ahead and made the purchase!!
