DH has a convertible and in September he had a problem with the roof closing all the way. He dropped the car off on September 21st and still doen't have it back! Worst part about this ordeal is there has been ZERO communication from the repair shop. DH calls several times a week and has been told 4 times now that they got the wrong part and have to wait for another. After calling the brands Customer Care LIne and complaining, he finally got a call Wednesday promising return of the car Saturday - of course this didn't happen. An again - no call from the repair shop. So frustrating. Going to contact our attorney tomorrow.

Take it to the dealer for best service and original parts. Chances are a Repair Shop is looking for "after" parts in a salvage yard, which is perfectly legal if your husband didn't specify NOT to use used parts. "You get what you pay for" when you use Repair Shops rather than a reliable dealer.

You are far more patient than I would have been in this situation. I would have picked up my car and taken it elsewhere. Take your husband over there in his car, have him drive it to another repair shop. You can also contact your states' consumer affairs office and your attorney if you need to. If you have given them any money at all, you are owed a refund and maybe more due to the length of time they have held the car with no work completed.

Get your car out of that place, and take it to your dealer, or a dealer that sells the same brand. I'd also contact your state's Attorney General's office and ask them to look into this so-called repair shop. Enough of the calling them every week - go get your car - do not leave it there any longer no matter what they want to charge you! You can use that as leverage later. The suggestion to call the consumer advocate at one of your local TV stations is also a good idea.

usually if a part is difficult to find OR is going to take some time, they would call you when the part came in. you keep your car and take it in when the part arrives. no need for them to keep it this long when you can keep it in your own garage or parking lot.

have no idea if you are talking about a newer car or more of a classic car to determine why it would take so long?

if you are not happy with the situation it is an easy one to take care of. go pick it up and find another reputable auto repair facility in your area.

Nowhere in your post do you state the year of the car. Is it a registered antique where parts may be difficult to find and replace? If so, you'd need to seek out a specialist in that particular field.

If it's a relatively new car, my first impulse would be to take it to the authorized dealer where the car was purchased.

It sounds as though you didn't do your homework. Go get the car and take it home until you find what you need.
