Have gone to a few. Think that they are a little pricey.We've never found anything spectacular.

I go to them now with my husband whenever we see a sign. They can be downright expensive or laughably cheap - depends on the state and the income of the owner.

I've seen a mink coat hanging on a hanger and also a price tag on a bottle of aspirin. Like I said it all depends on the state the sale is in.

We haven't bought anything yet but I was tempted when I saw a pool table up for sale recently in our neighborhood.

Go to them they can be fun. Some tell you take off your shoes.

DH and I used to go every weekend they had them (we were in San Diego) in order for me to find antiques to sell in the three malls I had a booth.... always found something neat but the prices could be higher than I wanted to pay but the quality and authenticity were often much better than garage sales. I got to know the Dealers quite well while I was doing this and we could hit 5 or 6 on a Sat morning, I would go right into the house and DH would go into the garage and out back. I absolutely loved it, we had SO much to choose from in San Diego. Here (upper midwest) there are rarely estate sales, they have auctions and I really dislike auctions. DH and I can cruise through an estate sale fairly quickly but at an auction we have to be there for hours......

I love estate sales and have bought a lot of antiques that we ended up keeping because I loved it so much, an early primitive cabinet that I use in my dining room, an unusually small pie safe. A jelly cabinet, a 1700's side table, a little bench made from a 1700's buckboard that someone in the 1800's made two drawers and legs for it. An 1860's Pfaff sewing machine with cabinet, a Coates and Clark spool cabinet that I use as an end tabe. I love primitive antiques.... hope you LOVE doing this and good luck! Each sale is different and often the last day of the sale the Dealer may be willing to negociate!!

I went to one a while back. I had seen some of the items on fb that were going to be sold, looked interesting to me. I bought an older wooden ladder backc chair, I put it in front of my fireplace. I also bought some old dishes, I thought were pretty.

There was a box of misc. stuff for 2 bucks and I got that, got it home, it had several of the old snuff glasses with lids. Now, that was right up my alley, b/cf it had been years since I saw those and my hubbys granny use to have a lot of them.

I also bought a handmade afghan that looks brand new.

I don't normally go to them, but after that one, I said I was going to start. The thing is though, I really don't need anything else.......

I have gone to two but bought at one. A man left his estate to the salvation army who had helped him as a young man. His only daugher had died of a drug overdose and had no heirs.

I bought a bed and headboard, granfather clock and a oak dresser. A auction house set the prices and it was a auction.

Yes. I'll find clothing, household goods, lace doilies, beautiful old plates.

Love looking at what comprises a persons life and like to think the things they valued go to a good home.

I've gone to many over the years. Not so much anymore as we're older now and don't need a lot. If I go I have a specific item in mind and a place for it. Usually the prices decrease the 2nd and 3rd days. Older furniture is better made. Occasionally I check out a couple local antique malls.

My husband saw an estate sale on line last week. He hid on an oak curved glass curio cabinet. He got it for twenty five dollars. I think it's 6'x4'.

I'm trying to get rid of stuff and he wants to display it!

I went to them for a few years from 2004-2007. I loved going to them but had to stop...how much 'stuff' does one need? LOL

I got several pieces of Fenton/various other artglass/depression and a few other types of housewares I used to decorate our home.

As soon as I filled our curio cabinet & wall unit I stopped going. It's adictive though...too much fun treasure hunting!

I know that many folks go to them so support themselves by selling on Ebay or other similar sites.

I couldn't do that and then have so much more stuff hanging around all the time til it would sell.

Haven't been to one in a long while. We bought lovely maple bedroom furniture at one years ago, wonderful pieces at a nice price. We still have them down here.

I guess we got lucky as we needed them, right place, right time.

Every now and then I see a piece that would taken me now memory lane. Very fond memories.

I have been to them and bought a couple of pieces of depression glass and an ancient cookbook. I also recently have perused sales advertising on FB in upscale parts of the area. Nothing has tempted me to battle traffic and lines to go to any of them. I frankly find them pretty sad. A person’s life reduced to a tag sale.

We live in a rural resort community, with many wealthy residents. From May to October we check Craigslist every Wednesday (garage/estate sale are with many pics) and usually hit one of two when we are in town. We have gotten some lovely things over last ten years. My favorite this year is a very old copper fire extinguisher that was converted into a lamp.

Curious about Estate Sales. Seeing more and more of them around, and not necessarily in „upper crust“ Neighborhoods. Large crowds but as I walk through there is so much „everyday stuff.“ People need to be posted in every room. I can’t remember if prices were marked. Some are handled as auctions. I have to wonder if homeowners end up with much after it’s all done. I could not fathom all those people walking throigh home with nice carpet!

I used to go all the time since they have at least 1-2 week in our area. They are never "auction" style things are just marked with prices. Since I live in a pre-dominantly older community as soon as the person dies ...the estate sale is usually within a week or 2 because the family wants to sell home.

When I first moved here it was fun to go. The best things I ever found was Violet figural pattern of Temptations. I bought the cake stand, dishes, Sugar & creamer, bowl, and something else for $12. I gifted to a friend.

I was always amazed that at these sales they even sell the stuff out of medicine cabinets, ie, bandaids, cotton balls, etc. and 1/2 containers of cleaning/laundry products & even toilet paper 😳

I stopped going to them when I realized I didn't need anything else but someday that scenario will be my kids selling the contents of my house😉.

My daughter and two of her friends own an estate sale co. They have been in this business for about 4+ years. I recently went to help out when they were short on help. It was a lot of fun and interesting to see all the items. I wish I lived closer so I could go to all of their sales.

As far as the carpeting goes, my daughter's company puts down plastic covering the walkways, if the owner requests it.

DH and I love estate sales,auctions, flea markets and garage sales. We actually started attending all of the above way back when when we had next to zero money and certainly no extra bucks for movies, plays or anything else that cost $$$s to attend. So we hit up the places that cost nothing to get into and turned out to be so informative and fun. We learned a lot about art, jewelry, furniture, collectibles, etc.

Fast forward, we now have a few bucks, still go, have bought jewelry and small collectibles for fabulous prices. Auctions especially are great places to find terrific prices. I have bought box lots of jewelry and have come across some fabulous treasures. Costume jewelry that is now worth substantial money (most notably Haskell and Carnegie) and two Imperial Gold bracelets.

Many years ago we went to an auction which featured Chanel suits and bags and Judith Lieber handbags (all beaded evening bags, none of her day bags). We were able to look at everything prior to the auction starting. I was particularly interested in the Chanel suits - all gorgeous. I studied the buttons (the CCs have to overlap in a particular way), I studied the seams, the lables, the chains along the hemlines of the jackets to weight them to stay in place, etc. Everything sold out at fairly high prices, we bought nothing, but enjoyed the auction.

A couple of years later I was in a second hand store with my husband and I came across what I thought was an original Chanel suit from the 1950s. I bought it for $50.00. Last August we were celebrating a big anniversary in a pretty high end restaraunt in Manhattan (we now can afford to do that!) and I was wearing the suit. A woman came up to me and offered me thousands of $$$s for said suit - yes it was Chanel from the 50's! Score! I didn't sell it, won't sell it, but am grateful for my auction education.

Now, for the really funny part of all of this; we recently went to another Chanel/Lieber auction and a woman was looking at a Chanel suit and a beaded Lieber bag in the preview. She said to her friend that she thought they looked great together. My husband, (the burly biker, man's man) looked at her and said, "m'am,everyone knows you can't wear a Chanel day suit with a Judith Lieber evening bag." I almost peed my pants laughing! He shot me darts and said, "well you know you can't!" So true! See what we can all learn from auctions and estate sales!!! LOL.
