Just heard that at least 8 people are dead in the shooting.

I haven't heard about the additional suspicious package found.

The media is now saying that the alleged shooter did not like the activities of HIAS, Hebrew Immigrant Aide Society, back in the day my material grandfather did volunteer work with HIAS

@sidsmom So, it’s impossible for every synagogue to have protection 24/7. That’s quite expensive. I know our synagogue has police cars at the Holidays, but this is quite different. Should we have police protection on every street corner, school, church, mall, convenience store, fast food restaurant, big box store....the list continues where these tragedies have occurred. God help us.

Wow classic "blame the victim". Why should a house of worship have to employ arme guards to protect people that gather there? Why are mass shootings so common now?

Yes, I also heard that heartless comment. As a practical comment, one armed guard would be helpless against someone with a military assault weapon. And one might consider we are in a crisis situation to require an armed guard to protect anyone attending a house of worship.

My heart is broken for all these victims, their loved ones left to grieve, and for the entire Jewish population everywhere. Senseless hate and violence directed to good and innocent people. Hate groups are growing in our country, and this must be stopped.

Now. It might interest some people to learn that anyone wearing a Nazi symbol in Germany is subject to arrest. Time to clean out our country of vermin. Time to end hate speech.

The synagogue I go to has had security since 9/11 but I don't think he's armed. It used to be open so one could leave food for a food pantry. We do have police cars outside during the holidays. I don't think it would make any difference. Sometimes when I'm parked far away the policeman will drive me to my car.
