Our favorite apple for anything is now Honeycrisp, which took over first place from Fuji.

Macintosh for apple pie. The best I've ever had was Yellow Transparent (Summer apple), but we can't find them anymore.

I could live the rest of my life without apples. Love, love all fruit, but apples, they are ok, but as I said I wouldn't miss them.

Years ago .. when I lived up Norh it was 20 ounce apples .. great

because they were so huge you only needed a few for a pie...

And our favorites were Northern Spies .....

I am not a pie baker ....but my mother in law made an apple pie

the likes of which will never be seen again .... with lard crust ...

you can't even imagine how delicious this pie was .....

Envy is another good apple -- very distinct flavor, almost perfumey/spicy.

Mutsu, also marketed with the name Crispin. Mutsu does not come to market until about the middle of October. It is a great all-purpose apple.

I'm not talking about baking apples but the very best eating apple is the Sweet Tango apples! Have any of you heard of them or are they just local here? I used to love Honeycrisp but my favorite now are Sweet Tangos hands down!

I have seen the Sweet Tango apples in my local Food Lion. I'm in Southern Maryland, and I'm impressed with variety of apples offered as the season gets going.

Pink Lady, Jazz, Sweet Tango -- most are light, sweet and crisp. Perfect for eating or cooking.

I love pie, but too many caloris. So, I simply bake lots of different varieties and eat them cooked as is. Sometimes I will add a few almonds to them after I've heat them up.

The best treat short of a wonderful pie!
