@cherry. I don't think she lives near the explosions.

I don't know where Jane lives, but, I live in a neighboring town where the fires and explosions are happening. The towns affected are Lawrence, Andover and North Andover, MA. These towns are in north east MA. The problem is from over pressurized gas lines with Columbia Gas. Residential and businesses are affected, people are being told to leave their homes, major roadways shut down, 60-100 fires &/or explosions occuring. Fire depts.from all over are helping and National Grid is now shutting off electricity to these affected areas. :-(

@LdyBugz Thank you so much. You provided so much more information then the story we saw on the national news.

This is just so disturbing. I know it is a necessity but the pressurized gas lines make me nervous. In our area we have had two major explosions in the past three years. Thank goodness there were rural. No deaths, but one man was burned so badly he will never live a normal life again.

Yes, it's very disturbing! I feel awful for these people. They have set up shelters for them and the Red Cross is on scene. All of the Boston news stations are covering it live and you can get info on their Web pages: WCVB , https://boston.cbslocal.com/

These explosions and fires are horrific and heartbreaking. The gas company was doing work on the lines. They've cut the power to all three towns too and evacuated people.

When we were building our home in Pa. in 1983 they were encouraging people to build all electric homes, because the chance of explosions in homes with gas lines. We went all electric and among other things we got a 20% discount on our homeowners because we didn't have any gas lines into the house. I believe they also gave us $1000 discount on the house because they did not have to put in a gas line.

One of our neighbors there did actually have her house explode and burn because of a gas explosion.

I saw the story on the news about the homes in Boston. They don't have enough firemen or equipment to fight them all - I heard 25 fires. Fire is my greatest fear. My heart goes out to these folks.

I am south of Boston, glued to local news. Devistating, 3 towns . I don’t think they have any reported fatalities.

Its in andover and methuen area, as many as 100 fires at once, Columbia gas company said it was high pressure at connection valves. Last I heard they had a handle on it. They shut off all gas in that area. The area is not really near city of Boston. I work around that area that's how I know.

I live about 20 miles from these towns. In addition to the initial problem of the gas explosions, electricity has been turned off to everyone in the three communities, whether they have gas or not. They have also closed four or five ramps off of Route 495. To say this is a mess would be an understatement. I’m thinking of all those affected.

This happened about 15 miles from me .All I can say is thank God that it did not happen at 3am when everyone was at home sleeping. As far as I have heard, there are no deaths. There were some firemen and civilians taken to local hospitals but no deaths. Some homes were blown apart and some were completely involved in fire. So far, no reason has been given which is really scary. The power has also been cut off to these towns and people were warned to not light any candles which might cause something to ignite.
