Half-Staff Flags: 9/11 (Tues)

To honor & remember the victims of September 11, 2001,
traditionally, a President's Proclamation is to be issued to lower all

American flags to half-staff to sunrise to sunset 9/11 (Tuesday).

Additionally, a moment of silence is observed to correspond
with the attacks, beginning at 8:46 AM (EDT),
the time the first plane, American Airlines Flight 11,
struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center
on September 11, 2001.

Every year I watch the TV and hear the names of those who died on that tragic day and every year I shed Tears while I watch and listen. I lived across the river from the Trade Center and worked at a school located close to the Hudson River. I can still picture the horror of the smoke, fire and falling of the towers. It is something which will never leave me.

I remember being in Manhattan near St. Patrick's Cathedral hearing the bagpipes being played for the fallen police and firemen who lost their lives. There was so much sadness, so much stress and disbelief every day.

Sadly over a hundred people who were involved in the rescue efforts have passed from diseases related to the air surrounding that area . I just read about another victim a few days ago.

It is still difficult to talk about and still so very sad. I feel bad for each and every one who lost someone in that attack plus the Pentagon losses and the plane victims. We have moved forward but never forget.

I watched the dedication event today for the Tower of Voices, Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, PA.

I worked very close to the WTC I was lucky enough to make it to my office, before the buildings fell but I did hear and see the 2nd plane fly over my head. My late parents neighbor worked on the 103 floor and survived the attack, but is still suffering the effects

Did you get to hear the chimes of the Tower of Voices, @just bee? Can only imagine how lovely and haunting it sounds.

I hope to hear them on Tuesday when our First Lady will be there.

We go to NYC a few times a year. In early 2001 I took a picture of the towers on one of those visits. Eight months later those towers were gone from the skyline.

Put that picture in a frame so I never forget the innocent people who left for work that morning and never returned home. ☹️

All these years later I still can't wrap my mind around this senseless, unholy attack - so many lives lost, so many families destroyed for nothing but misguided ideology. It helped no one's "belief" system or cause. My heart was shattered that day and still has not mended. Sadly, the flag in our front yard will be at half staff, once again, on 9/11.

I started to read the posts and couldn't continue because of the tears that blurred my eyes. I was born and raised in New York and I was living on the west coast when the Towers were attacked, I was stunned and terrified. My son could see the Towers from his house. I don't think any of we Americans will ever forget that day, it will live on in infamy. God Bless America.

The attacks took place on a Tuesday. So, another Tuesday, 9/11 is upon us. I watch many of the documentaries about that day throughout the year. It's almost just as unbelievable as the day it all happened. Those of us who were adults on that horrible day will never forget. However, those who were young children or not born yet don't really understand. I doubt the events of 9/11/2001 are taught in public schools.
