When I attended the US Open in NY this went on all the time with John McEnroe and Jimmy Conners - so many outbursts.

On the other hand, Bjorn Borg was a dream to watch and little to no outbursts.

Chrissy Everett was great as was Martina Navratolova (sp?).

I think sometimes these outbursts are stall tactics and to throw their opponent off their game.

@Sweet_Serenity - this isn't something new to the tennis world - this has happened for years.

Two things... First, perhaps she's gotten too big for her proverbial britches. She's had a storied career and perhaps it's gone to her head... And secondly, she's probably having a hard time accepting that with age, physical changes, younger and more fit competitors and family responsibilities, her game nor her triumphs are going to be as prolific as they once were... In other words, perhaps, despite her many successes and her still solid skills, aging gracefully isn't going to be easy for her...

Her reaction today doesn't surprise me.....as long as she is winning she behaves....once someone is beating her the real Serena comes out...i remember years back her berating the umpires, side linespeople, etc when things didn't go her way....that is the true Serena.....i really couldn't believe she had so many in the crowd applauding her after all her actions........Osaka was playing a stronger game throughout........it was OBVIOUS the coaching was going on....and i DON'T believe she didn't listen to it because even C. Evert said "she listened to her coach"....and at the end the coach admitted it...but then played it down and said all coaches do it.....she got enough warnings.....and SHE is the one who incited the crowd.....and i never saw ONE real tear come down her face....she ruined the victory for Osaka and she made it all about herself......and she is loving and running with that...ugh............disgrace.

I think Serena is a favorite target for some and has been since she dared to compete in Wimbledon in front of the country club set. I also think this is a perfect example of behavior by the men being chalked up to fierce competitorship and the heat of competition, as opposed to a female competitor who is supposed to be a little lady in competition at all times. The men get and have always had a pass, while the women haven't. Chris Evert was calledd the ice queen because she showed NO emotion. Rosie Casals, not so much. We all knew when Martina was upset. Serena competes like a man. So did Martina. Each temperament is different. Yet Serena is always the one who is expected to "get in line and control it." I believe that the hardest person on Serena in the long run is Serena. She always gives it her all, and her frustrations come out in times when her all is just not working. I'm sure John MacEnroe, Jimmy Connors, and Illie Nastase understand perfectly where she is coming from.

Thanks....and my heart goes out to the Umpire who did his job.....and don't they usually have a award for the presiding umpire....wonder with all the craziness they opted not to present him with it...................? Sadly after this will be all about Serena .....and Osaka is made to feel bad about her win..... and at the presentation i couldn't believe Serena went to give her a hug when she was crying.....even when C. I know way too little tennis to have any idea what really happened here, but I tend not to trust loud angry shouting, rants, blaming others, etc. in all kinds of endeavors and relationships.

Hope she calms herself and accepts what happened - and I hope for that judge that reruns prove it was a call that was as accurate as humanly possible.
